I would hate, with a capital effing "H", hate Jerry Jones. He seems to be more about having the expensive stadiums, the biggest jumbotrons, more recently the nicest buses, doing anything to get that one glamour draft pick. Seems like if he just tried to build a team they might see more positive results, instead it seems to be about everything else. Cowboys fans, any thoughts?

I am not a huge fan of GM Jerry Jones, but I love him as a owner, and all of us Cowboys fans realize that he's always going to be the GM as long as he's owner. Honestly I would Hate with a capital "H" if we had the chargers owner instead of Jerry :)

Jerry Jones is quite possibly the greatest businessman in the modern era of the NFL. There is nobody I would rather have running the front office.
The problem with Jerry Jones is that he's not just content with owning the restaurant, he wants to cook the food, too...and he's a terrible chef. Back when he had Jimmy Johnson and didn't have such a firm hold on every aspect of the team's football decisions, well, you saw what happened.
If he would be content with just sitting back and not trying to be general manager and coach and let somebody with a truly sharp football mind control things, the Cowboys would be a top powerhouse again, not just on the field, but in the general sports market. Jerry's money and business skills + a football brained GM - Jerry's hand on the sidelines = extreme profit and rings.

Stop blaming Jerry and start blaming Romo. We will not, cannot, ever win with him...period. He just falls apart in big games. And if he doesnt everything around him does. Also, Garrett has no fire...the only coach who showed emotion was fired. Great combo...I think the fans and the owner are the only ones left who cares about winning. Everybody else is content to be a Cowboy and play in the big stadium with all the press and fanfare...

The Cowboys have how many playoff appearances and wins compared to San Diego's in the past ten years? I'd say we're better off.
I realize Jones as business man is top notch, but he is terrible with building a team, he just doesn't let the coaches and staff do the job he hired them for. All you hear about is how much he butts in. I would still not want him as an owner. Owners own, coaches coach, players play, they support each other but should never be crossing over into one anothers jobs.

Love the owner but not the GM. While Jerry has made a lot of mistakes over the years that have hurt the Cowboys he is responsible for the drafting of Witten & Ware. I do believe the Cowboys have drafted much better since 2010.

Ummm the Cowboys passed on drafting Randy Moss for image purposes but then bring in T.O.? To say Romo is a Top 10 QB we must be talking statistics? Please check his "when the game matters" and has playoff implications statistics while your at it. Just like Parcells said, "do not drink the Kool-Aid on this guy just yet". He saw what we fans finally figured out. Whether it is all him, the line, the coaching , etc he sucks in big games...Everything goes through Witten and then he looks around. He needs to stop worrying about making his buddy happy and throw more jump balls to Dez Bryant and let the rest take care of itself.
Also, do people really still think Garrett is the genius he was billed to be? I was a die hard Cowboy fan and as of right now I died hard. Gone are the days when the players showed any kind of emotion. Everytime Romo throws his 3rd pick he has the face of "when is my next tee time with Witten" look going while Garrett just sits there stone faced. Pretty bad. I do not need a baby like the Niners Harbaugh but give the coaches some kind of emotion...
exactly Jerry Jones the owner is top notch, though him as a GM is not. he needs to step back as GM, and fire his head coach, then they need to bring in a coach who actually knows how to get it done, and knows what plays to call at which times, lol.
personally i think he should bring in Jimmy Johnson as GM, but ive been wishing that since JJ got jealous of Jimmy and kicked him to the curb.

Jerry Jones is a terrible owner due to the fact that he keeps himself employed as the GM. No other GM would still have a chance at a job with the terrible resume over the last 15 years. This staff has failed at drafting past the first round. Jones wants to be relevant, and is more about the $ than the team. All this, and I am somehow still a Cowboys fan.

You should always be loyal to your team. Even if they suck. I know.
Go Skins!!!
With the cycle they've been caught in with overpaying for certain players finally starting to turn the corner (Free, Newman, possibly Austin, Barber, Roy Williams, etc) and getting their bonus money off of the books, they might be able to break through via drafting, which has been pretty damn good the past 3 seasons. If they can sew up Bryant, Lee and Carter long term, they should be set.
I doubt they keep Spencer at this point, there's not enough cash flexibility to warrant his resigning unless he takes peanuts.

This has killed them over the years and why I am still not sure keeping Spencer is worth they money (if they even can make the cap room).

Jerry's greatest fault in his quest for post season success is his loyalty to Romo. The Cowboy's are that "it" factor away from being a real winner, Romo just doesn't have that "it".

The cycle started in 2000 and they almost broke out of it in 2009, only to fall back in due to bad a trade and some worse contracts. I have a feeling there won't be any big contracts like that anymore. Spencer probably should be let go, I think the guy deserves the contract commensurate with his ability.

If you can define "it", I'd love to see it.
How about Romo get some time to carve up some secondaries and a decent running game?

That's just "it". "it" transcends a verbal definition. One either has "it" or doesn't have "it". At best "it" is what is needed to get your team to the next level--it's individualized to fit the situation. Brees didn't have "it" when he was in San Diego, but found "it" in New Orleans. Brady didn't have "it" at Michigan but found "it" in New England. The "it" factor is a very well known phenomenon in the sports and entertainment industry and it's typically difficult to define such a fluid term.

In other words you are crazy and don't know what your talking about. Romo is a hell of a QB just give him a good line. I have no doubt romo in Brady Rodgers or even mannings line would be just as good if not better. He is a top 10 QB with no line and a top 5 with one.

He's Jerry F'n Jones, he could get anybody he wants, but his fatal flaw is that he's sticking with Romo. Brees was available for a while last year, Alex Smith is a good choice, Matt Flynn would be excellent in Dallas's scheme, to name just a few. I may be crazy, (haha) but not stupid. If Romo ever wins a Suber Bowl I will give JONMEAD a sp Authentic RC auto of ROMO. You all can hold me to it. Heck, even if he doesn't I may.

You are correct. Jerry and co. have done a much better job of drafting since 2010. The problem is Jason Garrett and Romo. Romo would have been a much better quarterback, had Jason Garrett not gotten a hold of him. Jason garrett has been like a virus, or better yet, a trojan horse to Romo. Oh well, I want them both gone.
pitterchi
02-21-2013, 11:10 PM
Romo may be a problem but lets face it. He's their best option.
Free Agency's best options:
Joe Flacco - not enough cap space
Jason Campbell - ehhh, you'll lose less with Romo
Trade bait:
Alex Smith - There goes your picks...
Matt Flynn - Got beat out by a really good rookie.
Draft:
Geno Smith - Need to trade up for this
Matt Barkley - Injury makes this suspect
Let me know if I missed anyone worth noting.
The Cowboys are stuck for a while. Consider it another rebuilding year.
