Open the damn checkbook and give him the keys
The Buffalo Bills have named defensive coordinator Perry Fewell the interim replacement for fired head coach Dick Jauron. But they might be looking for a long-term replacement who will make a big splash.
Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Bills have contacted Mike Shanahan to gauge Shanahan's interest in becoming their next head coach.
ESPN also reports that the process is underway of arranging a meeting between Shanahan and the Bills.
Shanahan, who won two Super Bowls as the head coach of the Denver Broncos, would presumably want complete control of all football decisions. Given that the Bills are likely looking at a front-office shakeup in addition to a new head coach, that probably wouldn't be a problem for Bills owner Ralph Wilson.
Shanahan was fired early this year after coaching the Broncos from 1995 to 2008

I still think Shanahan will be going for the Cowboys job.

I cannot imagine what life is like as an "insider" (Adam Schefter). Does he ever have any free time?

I'm sure he gets paid a nice amount to do it. Probably relaxes after the Superbowl until March

Mike Shannahan would be an amazing addition to the Bills! Let's hope this gets done!

NFL.com's Vic Carucci reports that the Bills will meet with former Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan next week.
Carucci confirms that Shanahan is Buffalo's "No. 1" head coaching target. The meeting will involve owner Ralph Wilson and COO/GM Russ Brandon, who Shanahan would probably give a pink slip to if he's hired. It's well known that Shanahan wants full control of football operations, even if taking on such responsibilities didn't work out towards the end of his Broncos stint. Wilson is reportedly willing to offer The Mastermind any amount of salary to take the job.

Is it true the Bills plucked Brian Brohm off the Packs practice squad ?? I really liked Brohm coming out and have a ton of his high end stuff so that would be some good news especially since there isn't much in front of him in Buffalo.

I really liked him coming out of Louisville. I was actually excited when the Packers drafted him, because we didn't really know what we had in Rodgers, or if he could stay healthy. We drafted Brohm and Flynn that year (2008?). For whatever reason, the Packers have always preferred Flynn, but I've always liked Brohm. He'll get a chance to play in Buffalo.
Sorry for the hijack OP.

As long as old cheapo doesn't keep Fewell. He is much more exciting than Dick but not ready to be a coach especially around Buffalo since all of us fans are getting sick of trying to develop assistants(see Mularky, Smith, Phillips). I just wish Shanahan would get fired and could give RALPH his pink slip. I'd be shocked if he brings in a coach and gives him too much power. Even at 90+ he still wants to much control.
