Wondering your thoughts on what set to start with?
Born in 1983, Penguins fan so 85-86 is an option for lemieux's rookie season, maybe jagr's rookie season? maybe some old OPC? any thoughts?

I don't collect hockey much, but I like the 1950's Parkhurst sets and the early 1970's Topps sets.

67-68 and 68-69 are both gorgeous and contain cards of the big three (Orr, Howe, Hull).
Would start there....

Yeah, Jagr RC season would not be considered vintage and you could probably find one fairly cheap. I traded for an 86 topps set last year. It would be a fun one as most of the commons don't cost too much. You might even be able to find a starter set on eBay or at a shop. I am currently working on 71/72 topps myself. I like that design.

is there a good site you guys use that lists many of the old sets with examples and checklists so I can compare?
thanks for your help so far! I'm going to start digging at the vintage tables at a show this weekend. Never done that before!

I'm working on a 1971/72 topps set. Trying to do PSA 8 or better. I have a few PSA 7, but have some PSA 9 to balance it out. I have 4 cards left to find. There are a few expensive cards, but the set is pretty affordable. One of the frustrating things is that a lot of the cards you find will be off centered.

Which 4 do you need? I think I have some extra. Most are in pretty good shape. They are raw, not graded.

If you're interested in building a 74-75 topps set, I have about 500 commons and semi-stars from vending boxes I broke years ago that have just been siiting in a closet since I broke them.
