Is there a reason why my Jordan PSA 8 RC isnt labeled (OC) like the ebay link below, even though its clearly off centered. Sorry if this is a dumb question, I didn't send this to get graded myself I got it in a trade. I honestly think my card has the edges, corners, and surface similar to some psa 9's from what I can see but figured it was graded lower because of the centering. Anyways, any help is appreciated I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to grading services.

You can choose to not have qualifiers...very likely this one had to be in great condition otherwise to maintain an 8 grade...ie submitter could have gotten a 9 o/c.
Edit to add - still seems like generous grade with that centering.

And looking at sales I'm guessing a psa 9 (oc) is consistently worth more than a psa 8, correct?

PSA classifies a qualifier as a -2 on the grading scale so technically a 9 oc is looked at as a 7 and I would rather have a 7 than a 9oc im not a fan of qualifiers at all.

I'm on my phone or I would look but what would a typical difference in value be between a 7 and 9 oc?

YESS the reason is a PSA must have employed a blind grader. all i can say is wow that should be a PSA 7 with that centering

All grading is based on someone's opinion, everyone has different opinions.
It up to you to decide which opinion you would pay for :-)

What defines overvalued? What the market says? Or what you say because you prefer BGS? Which preferring BGS is fine - but saying something is overvalued because you don't like what they sell for is just short sighted.
I can say a million things are overvalued - cards, cars, clothes, electronics...
Doesn't mean a damn thing if that market says differently.

And if it got a 7 on centering, but 9.5's on corners, edges and surface, the bgs grade would be what? Maybe an 8? Odd.

This guy is nuts. I own many psa graded cards as well as a handful of bgs/bvg cards. As you can see I prefer PSA for vintage cards and that is because BVG in my opinion is a joke. I love PSA's registry as well. PSA is the standard always has been

Centering has to fall outside of that grade's minimum standard to carry a (OC) qualifier.
For a 9 Mint, that generally means 60/40 to 65/35 or worse on the front.
For a 8 Nm-Mt, that generally means 65/35 to 70/30 or worse on the front.
The 8 pictured in this thread is no worse than 65/35, so it falls within their acceptable minimum standard, and thus does not carry the (OC) qualifier.

You're right. Its better than 70/30, but worse than 65/35... Almost exactly 68/32. Within the acceptable range for an 8 to not carry a qualifier.

Any MJ RC is awesome in my eyes. Corners, edges, surface all look great but that centering is way off. I am surprised that got into a straight 8 holder and not an 8 OC or a PSA 7. Again, it is completely subjective and at the end of the day the cards is a PSA 8.
At the end of the day it is always easier to sell cards without qualifiers no matter what the prices say.

You love bashing peoples cards just because they are graded by psa and not bgs. If it was a bgs 8 you would have nothing bad to say. Go troll someone elses thread. You came in here here and completely took this thread in a negative direction.
