View Full Version : Question of game-used memorabilia cards...

I was going to bump the "here is a fake game-used card in National Treasures" thread, but felt it was without merit and thus did not want to give a negative connotation to a simple question.

Within that thread, the authenticity of a Rogers Hornsby jersey came into question. A few members pooled together to showcase a jersey at an auction house site that Panini purchased from. It's possibly a silly question, but is there any way to pinpoint the specific items used in game-used cards these days? The concept of a few members locating the "questionable" jersey in a matter of hours boggled my mind, leaving me to wonder.

Essentially I got a Dizzy Dean glove card a week ago and I'm fascinated by it. The leather on the /10 differs from the /25 variant. I'm just curious if it's possible to locate the item, or if the Hornsby jersey was an anomaly in this instance that somehow everyone was able to locate on a whim or something. I'm not questioning the authenticity of it or anything (I'm sure some of you will point out that it is definitely without question 100% fake anyway ), I'd just like to know more about the glove if at all possible. It's the kind of card that renewed my interest in GU after all the hubbub and scandals.

Anyway, appreciate the input. :)! I miss the days when a picture of the item was on the back of the card. That'd make this whole thing much easier.

Finding where your gu comes from involves a lot of dumb luck/guesswork. It's a possibility that this is your Dizzy Dean glove: 1947 Dizzy Dean Final Game Worn Fielder's Glove.... Baseball | Lot #81083 | Heritage Auctions (http://sports.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=7051&lotNo=81083)

I know that Panini was active in the May 3-5 2012 Heritage auction so the probability is relatively high the above is it.

Very cool. Judging based on the materials, looks like it could be a match.

Not my card, but gives a better example than mine:

Much obliged for the help. If so, very fun to own a piece of his final game glove.

It has always troubled me that they would slice up such a significant piece of history. I mean honestly, how many gloves had this man used prior to his last game? Either way, makes for a premium.

Also true. I was kind of surprised they'd go for what's bound to be a top dollar piece as opposed to something cheaper.
