2007 Bowman Sterling (2) Case Sealed Bid Break

Okay...Here goes nothing...

I want to do another (2) case break of 2007 Bowman Sterling. I am doing it a little differently this time. Rather than an online auction I am doing a sealed bid type auction.

Here are the rules--

(1) You are allowed ONE bid per team. If you have a budget, then spend as you are allowed.

(2) Bids must be PM'd to me that way I can keep track of your bids.

(3) All teams that don't have bids by the deadline will be re-bid for a time TBD. If after that time, the team still has no bids, I will keep that team(s) for my own adding the cost of the minimum bid to the total $ pot.

(4) The total of the bids MUST be equal or above $3,800 to have this go live! If the total is above that amount, then more boxes of this product will be purchased and broken with the same person getting the team they won.

(5) Bidding will close @ 11:59pm EST, Tuesday 05 Feb 08.

(6) Starting bids are as follows:

Angels - $60
A's - $60
Astros - $60
Blue Jays - $150
Braves - $120
Brewers - $180
Cardinals - $150
Cubs - $140
Devil Rays - $160
Diamondbacks - $20 (yes - NO autos)
Dodgers - $120
Giants - $280
Indians - $80
Mariners - $40
Marlins - $60
Mets - $80
Nationals - $120
Orioles - $20
Padres - $80
Phillies - $80
Pirates - $60
Rangers - $160 (several decent autos)
Red Sox - $80
Reds - $170
Rockies - $60
Royals - $20
Tigers - $40

(7) If 2 or more people bid the same amount for a team. I will notify them and ask for a bid higher than they previously bid. If there are still ties, I will go with the person who has the highest winning bids on ALL teams in the product. If there are still ties, then we will figure something out to make it as fair as possible.

(8) I will give a balance to date of all bids, to give you a better feel if this is going live or needs more time.

Somehow I think Marty's site is the way to go. Your sealed bid idea seems to end up having people see the bids and bid at the last moment (9 eastern) to beat the bids they've seen. Just like sniping at the auction site but by email.

My impression of a sealed bid would be that all bids get sent in and then the winning bids are revealed from those entries at 1 given time and date. Whoever sends in the highest bid wins. Any ties are broken by the time date on the email.

Yeah, being able to send in multiple sealed bids based on what the last know high price is kind of defeats the purpose of the sealed bid auction.

I would be fine with a sealed bid, one bid per team, per person stipulation and the high value not be posted on here. Anything above the 3800 could be put back into more packs, toppers,etc just as TK was going to do.

I just was looking at other ways besides an online auction to spice it up a little and give it a little fairer shot to everyone and stay within their budget for their favorite team or player on that team.

With families, work and life in general it's hard for everyone to be online when the bids are at the last minute.

I want you to do this break, and it's obvious you do too. All, we were saying was that a multiple bid allowed sealed bid where the high price is known, is basically auction style.

If you did it one bid per team, per person, everyone has to put their best offer forward the first time. Saving you from wading through repeat emails of $1 more than the previous known high bid.

i will be placing about 17 bids on tuesday. also i wouldn't let anyone know what teams have been bid on. some people might have bid the minimum for these teams but now they know the minimum isn't going to cut it.

I don't think it matters what teams are bid on so far. As long as the price isn't given, it is still fair game!

Plus, even if a person bid the minimum, they might still win.

You just never know :)

My theory is everyone has their own budget on what they want to spend on their teams.

If they stick to that, they can't go wrong either way!

But I am big on constructive feedback, so thanks for the insight. Change was made! I will post the number of teams that have been bid on, not the specific team.

I haven't ordered the cases as of yet. I will call Chris tomorrow. I was going to get the cases, but my paypal credit card didn't have a confirmed address since I moved before I left to Afghanistan. I will buy the cases with my credit card.

Not trying to be a jerk but if you do not order the case till tomorrow we are not even going to have a break for another week. This should have been done so that the break could happen after all the payments were in within a couple days of auction. You are in San Diego and it is going to take at least 4 business days to get to you.

As you can see...we are only up to $3175 in bids. I would have no problem sucking up some of the other teams and ordering the case, but I already received the Cardinals, Dodgers, Rockies and Padres from the last break. Really don't need anymore of them. :)

Bidders waited to the last minute to make bids. Before yesterday, the total was only $1600. I wasn't sure if this was going to happen or not. Sorry!

If it doesn't happen, I tried! :(

don't be sorry. i think you did the right thing. i wouldn't buy two cases for 3800 knowing i wasn't going to get that from the bids. if it happens great, if not no big deal, we tried but under no circumstances do i want you or anyone else to lose money doing a break.

It looks like to me that even if you get bids on those teams, assuming it would be the minimum, your total would still be less than the 3800 for the cost of the break.

Sorry, but I received no more bids for any of those teams, therefore the break is not going to happen.

I tried, and apologize if the format wasn't conducive. I just thought it would be easier to stay within your own budget and bid what you could and take a chance on winning.
