Not so much a bias just the hawks a sexy pick because they added several big names players this off season. I do think Russ Wilson is legit, but the Seahawks outside of their own stadium wouldn't scare me... They benefitted from a lot of calls last season, this season will be much tougher on them. Will be nice seeing some flags thrown at their PI defensive backfield..

I agree. The niners can take so many draft chances with all the picks. They just received three more compensatory picks yesterday. So now I think they have 17. Not to mention the draft choices they do make that they dont trade won't make any money. So Seattle please keep signing people and see if there's any money left for Russell Wilson in a couple years:)!

We'll see about that.

Considering the game at candlestick was close last year when russell didn't have run option at his disposal, and niners got obliterated by Seattle at the dome even when you had Kaep.

Should be a fun division to watch for years to come, that's for damn sure.

3-5 seasons?

Pretty easy to say "no signs of cap hell" when your 2015 roster consists of only 16 players under contract currently - one of them not being Colin Kaepernick and the makeup contract he'll want (if he performs) for being so underpaid previously.

You understand the Seahawks were coming in off a road game to play a Thursday night road game and still the 49ers could only muster 13 points.

Where does the whole east coast bias myth stem from?

Does it have to do with coverage? If so, you can't blame networks for covering you know, the teams with the most interest to get views - that's basic logic.

If it has to do with ESPN - it's terrible in analysis...so yeah.

Someone explain it to me?

I'm well aware of that - but you're saying they aren't in "cap hell" for 3-5 seasons when in reality it's for 2013 and 2014 - by 2015 they don't even have a whole team of 22 guys under contract.

It's all time zones.

ESPN looks at it's programming and realizes that "live" shows (whether Sportscenter, PTI, whatever) are shown when people in the East Coast time zone get off work. They sit around eating dinner with their families watching the shows when they air. West Coast people are at work. They get caught watching the repeat episode or a condensed live episode at 9:00 eastern when they are off work.

Same thing as NFL on Sundays. They gear the pregame shows to the East Coast because we are all awake and watching at 11:00. West Coasters are still asleep.

College is even worse because things like Gameday start at 6 am on the West Coast because of 12:00 kickoffs for the first games.

That's why "traditionally", not as much anymore with the implement of all the ways to watch, the East Coast has gotten more coverage.

I'm well aware.

You are aware the Niners only have 1.8 million of dead money in 2015 (Anthony Davis) - and 65 million of committed on 16 players - which leaves them with around 55 million in cap space to sign or bring back 37 players including Kaep.

East Coast bias is real for most sports. Football is actually the exception. Baseball, baseketball, college football & college basketball - it is quite real. The reasoning is that most games start after the East Coast has turned in for the night. Football, from a networking standpoint, does not apply as everyone has early and late games. It's not like there is a 10pm game on Sunday night exclusive to the West coast.

Just based off the fact that they have Rodgers.....

but to touch on your points, I don't think he was our top receiver, it's more like 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b... and Jennings was injured most of the season.

Also just getting injured players back makes them a different team.

And Finley is a bum! always has been always will be....save it, I've heard it before and have no interest in arguing about it again.

I will say the hawks fans have a lot of balls for their confidence at being #1 seeing they last won a Super Bowl when? Niner haters will be around for awhile. 18 of the most dominate years ever can create such hate.

I didn't want to say anything and was going to let my team talk for themselves this year, but this kid is so pumped about his #1 ranking it's funny. I can say the Seahawks did get better this year but i don't see them having the #1 record at the end of the year, i dont even see them having a top 5 but we shall see. Everyone is going to be excited about their team (well aside from Raiders, yeah they suck, and 5 or 6 other teams) but for some members to be shooting off when the extent of their team's history success goes as high as playoff wins, even one member stating the death of the others QB is just appalling and such bad taste

What is fueling this is a half-game difference in the standings and a 42-13 beatdown by the Seahawks in late December.

If not for the half-game difference in the standings, last seasons playoff fortunes most likely would have been flipped.

All you do is mention the 42-13 loss. The Niners went out and handled their business against the Packers in the playoffs to host the Championship game at Candlestick against the 'best' team in the NFL with the winner going to the Super Bowl. The only thing that needed to happen for this showdown was for the 'best' team in the NFL needed to beat the Falcons. Guess we know what happened there.

If not for the half-game difference? You sound as bad as your coach after being gifted the game against the Packers. What is the overall head to head record between the two coaches?

I'm as big of a Seahawks fan there is, but the Seahawks haven't passed @&$@. Sure they look good on paper, but let's hold judgement until we see the finished product on the field.

Finally someone speaking objectively. Not sure why threads like these always have to turn to name calling and chest thumping, but both the niners and Seahawks will be fighting for years to come. Rams are much tougher with fisher around as well so the division is shaping up to be the newest black and blue division.

I'm a huge niners fan and have been there through the dynasty years and the lean years. I think it's funny how any niners fan is labeled a bandwagoner?

Yes, because the Seahawks were horrible last year, right? How does 42-13 taste?

Not near as good as 5 Super Bowl trophies taste.

Why do people mention past super bowl trophies regarding teams who last won a SB 20 years ago.

Well technically its been 19 years.

But I did forget about the rule that says championships stop counting after a certain time. Good call!

Lots of smack talking going on already. I'm as big a Seahawks fan as there is, but before you all start popping off about wins, losses, and the NFC west, try to remember one very important thing. Since 2001, when the four teams currently in the NFC west were all together:

Rams- NFC West champs-2, super bowl wins-0
Cardinals- NFC west champs-2, super bowl champs-0
49ers- NFC West champs-3, super bowl wins-0
Seahawks-NFC West champs-5, super bowl wins-0

What's that mean?

Ain't not a one of us has done anything at all.

Seahawks look legit
Niners look legit
Rams looked pretty dang good last year too

Gonna be a heck of a ride in 2013. I'll be cheering for my hawks like always, praying no one gets injured, and hoping the pieces fall into place to make a run and win a super bowl. So will everyone of you.

LOL I agree wholeheartedly.

Always awesome to dwell on decades past like a WW2 vet, amirite?

2013 should be fun.

I agree. The niners can take so many draft chances with all the picks. They just received three more compensatory picks yesterday. So now I think they have 17. Not to mention the draft choices they do make that they dont trade won't make any money. So Seattle please keep signing people and see if there's any money left for Russell Wilson in a couple years:)!

they sure are gona have to cut a lot of players to keep 17 kids from the draft!

considering its a what have you done for me lately league.. yeah i'd say a championship won 19 years ago doesn't mean crap on the field today, tomorrow, or next year.

Technically there is a certain time.. I'm pretty sure no one cares to hear about the last time the Cardinals or Browns won a championship.

19 years is a long time but at least I can still remember 3 championships pretty well from my youth. I'm pretty sure if it were the other way around, Seahawks fans would not be discounting 5 titles either, regardless of how long ago they were.

Not every fan would think that way however I know what you are saying. I still hear people talk about the Seahawks super bowl loss as if it was yesterday. I can only imagine what some fans would do with a Super Bowl...even if it happened in the 80's.

For the record, I don't discount any teams history. My point is simply this: The Seahawks fans in here talking about 1 regular season game irritates me. The 49ers fans (and will throw in the Cowboys fans and Raiders fans too) that are in here talking about super bowls irritates me too. The NFL is all about what have you done for me lately and in twelve years, not one team I have mentioned has done a freaking thing.

I have a lot of respect for the Seahawks as an organization. They've had some of my favorite players in their uniforms over the years (Steve Largent, Curt Warner & Kenny Easley to name a few). They do have a very impressive fan base as evidenced by the "12th man" being such a factor in their home games. However, any human being, regardless of what team they root for, who discounts or minimizes in any way what the 49ers accomplished is either a fool or envious or both. I couldn't care less how long ago those titles were won. It's an impressive feat and one that has only been bested by one franchise (the 6-time champion Steelers). The Hawks have yet to win just one Super Bowl. Heck, let's put this in perspective a bit. The 49ers have been to 6 Super Bowls and won 5 of them. The Seahawks have 7 Division Titles and 0 Super Bowl victories. The Niners have been to nearly as many Super Bowls as the Seahawks have Division Titles. Someday the Seahawks might actually win a ring or two, but until they do they will always be licking the boots of the 49ers. You can't talk ridiculous amounts of smack when you haven't a single Lombardi Trophy in your case. Heck, the only have one Halas Trophy in their case. And though it was nearly 20 years ago when the Niners won their last title, they still have far more to brag about than the Seahawks do.

Understood. I just have a lot of respect for all divisional teams. No matter how poor a team may be, it's always a fight because all the teams know each other so well. Let's just let the teams play and react then haha.

Well put. and any Niners fan who says that the Seahawks are not a threat to us, is lying or a fool. It's dumb to keep harping on the 42-13 loss but it did happen and has to put the Niners on alert. Russell is legit, and so it Kaep, so it'll be fun and nerveracking for years to come.

I completely agree with you. Both teams are going to be in a dogfight for some years to come. Both extremely talent-laden. Should be fun watching them duke it out in the coming years.

For the Niners too, the Rams sort of have their number right now. And I think the Cards will be more disciplined next year with Arians, so I don't necessarily think any divisional games are gimme's.

It will be fun to watch the tight competition but too much stress. lol

Yeah. If you count it as the '95 season, it's 18 years. If you count it as the '96 SB, 17

Either way...not 19
