Anybody know the history of Donruss Diamond Kings

such as what year it started and ended (or if still going)? any other interesting facts? any rare cards in the sets?

The sets began in 1982, one player per team, cards are considered commons and part of the regular Donruss sets.

Oversized 5x7 versions were also produced and sold separately from 1985-1991, with 1992/1993 sets being issued as test versions only, and therefore very scarce.

Yep. It started with 1982 Donruss and was inserted in every Donruss set with one "Diamond King" per team. They always chose a new player for each team every year and never duplicated a player until 1986 when they did a King of Kings card of Pete Rose. Then in 1987 the duplicated some other players (George Brett, for example).
