Overrated. I like the toppings option, but the fries were meh and the burger was way overpriced.

Five Guys started back in Northern Va, when they were only in this area they were the greatest burgers ever. Now that they have gone national, it's not the same. The places here in NOVA are still good but some of the other locations I have tried throughout the US, do not have the same atmosphere as those in this area. Still the best burger and fries ever.

Good burger....wouldn't say spectacular or anything.....very pricey and why they still do not have combos instead of buying everything seperate and paying around $13-$15 for a burger, drink and fries is way too much

Their burgers are fries are delicious. Original or Cajun fries, can't go wrong, and they give you plenty more than you would need.
And while their burgers are higher priced than other fast food spots, its still reasonable when compared to the quality you get for the same price as a McDonald's combo meal.
Burger and fries for about 8-9 bucks. Not that expensive. It's about 6-8 bucks for a McDonald's or BK combo. Five guys has bigger portions and better quality. Not to mention unlimited toppings

Best soda machine, fresh-cut fries, free peanuts (incorporated into the price of the meal of course), delicious burgers with free extra bacon and cheese.
I spend like $13 there, but it's better than McDonald's junk and just priced like any food at a moderate sit-down restaurant.
Can argue it's overpriced, but with the service and quality I'll take it, second best to making a burger at home.

I dislike 5 guys. The one location I did like was different then the other locations
and the food tasted different. The people that took me there thought I was crazy. I took one bite and threw the rest away.
Fries were decent.
I think In/Out is much better.
Smashburger BLOWS IMVHO. 5 guys dominates them.
I like my own burgers of course but if I am not making the burger then In/Out is the only place I will go.

They just opened one near me and I tried it last week. I'll go with good, but not great, and very pricey. Double burger, medium fries and large drink was $14.35.
I liked the fries, but no way I could finish even a medium, they filled the container then dumped another scoop into the bag.
I'll try them again, but next time I'll go for a single burger and small fries.

Double burger, regular fry, large drink comes out to $12.48 with tax down here. Not too bad considering the portion. You definitely get your money's worth.

You're paying about $7 for a combo meal at McDonald's. For about $5 more your getting a double cheeseburger with unlimited toppings, more fries than you need, and if you eat inside then you get unlimited drinks and unlimited shelled peanuts.
That with the fact that its a far better quality hamburger than the national fast food chains and you get a lot more.
And if you have two people, you split the fries because even a regular fry is plenty for two. So basically about $18 for two people to eat and be full. Idk about you guys but just one McDonald's or BK burger won't fill me up.
The prices could be lower I definitely agree..but in comparison and for what you get, it's not bad.

I'm not a fan of Burger King or McDonalds. Won't eat there.
The golf course I used to work just a block away from me serves food, you can get a half pound burger and a basket of seasoned waffle fries for $6. I waste half of my French fries every time I go there. I can feed a family of four for less then $20. Burger King or McDonald's is over a 20 minute drive from my house or I walk to the golf course.

Golf course doesn't make much a return on that, probably helps draw a lot of golfers/people in.
Think the chain discussion is different though, not everyone has that burger place, while Five Guys is more available. If I'm in an unknown area and hungry, not going to go to a burger place I've never heard of, and if I see McDonald's or Five Guys I know where I'm going.

Five Guys are alright if you're in a pinch, but at least in my area I have two other burger joints not too far that make Five Guys seem like Burger King.
Anyone in the Mohegan Sun area of CT, highly recommend Bobbys Burger Palace in the casino (Bobby Flays place) or down the road a place called Moes Burgers and Brews. Moes is better than Bobbys but if you can only do one do Bobbys just for the fact that it's Bobby Flays

West side continues to lose businesses. People over there do not support them. You have high foreclosure rates and people moving out of crime ridden areas. Look for this to continue. Businesses closing on the west side that thrive on the east side.

-The bread is horrible, and they smash all the juice out of the burger while cooking.
On their website, they write:
""By cooking all of our burgers juicy and well done we are able to achieve two goals.""
Cooking a burger 'well-done' is by definition not 'juicy'. These guys, Smashburger, and any other place that only cooks red meat well-done need to go away. They cook all the flavor and texture out, and charge you more than they should for the insult.

Five Guys typically locates in high priced yuppified real estate so they always have the pressure of just getting by after all of the franchise fees are paid each month.
As long as the IPhone, Starbucks, Chipotle eating in crowd thinks it is the place to be they are fine, but they really are not doing anything unique that cannot be bettered by competition.
