I don't usually ask advice, but before going with my gut...I'll field some opinions.
Had a high end auction end sunday night. Get a message from high bidder today, asks if it's okay if he pays by NEXT SATURDAY, the 25th. Says his feedback shows he's good for it.
Would you wait two weeks? I feel like i'm running free layaway.

Not a freaking chance. Probably holding it on retainer while he is watching another or waiting for someone to get called up, etc. Feedback means nothing anymore which is proof in exactly how he is handling this. The proper way would have been to clear it with you BEFORE bidding. Not what I would consider high end but are you talking about the Miggy?

Exactly my point. I kinda feel like he should have contacted me first. Follow up question...if I say no...does he have recourse after not paying after that long? I'd really hate to get a neg due to the fact that this JA wants free card layaway.

if he'd contacted me BEFORE the auction ended and I wasn't in real need of the money...yeah I probably would. But with him waiting until afterward...no chance.

I'll second this.. Had this happen to me twice on here and lost significant money and offers due to it. Only way I would accept is if he had messaged prior to bidding and or put a downpayment on it.

you can agree to cancel it...or you can open an NPB on him. if you cancel, or if the NPB gets closed and you strike him, he won't be able to leave neg afterward.

Ebay gives him eight days, if he pays outside of that and a NPB case gets started and won, I think you are good. If payment isn't made feedback can't be left as the transaction wasn't officially completed.

This.
I'd want to know before so I could discuss it with them prior before I was comfortable doing it.

just politely messaged him back saying I can't hold for two weeks as he didn't contact me prior to auction end.
We'll see how this goes.

I'm doing this right now with a Harper auto and wish I wasn't. He contacted me before bidding and we agreed on a deal outside of the listing. He agreed to put a downpayment through Paypal and did. Now he is being difficult. Just not getting a good feeling. Just this morning I refunded his down payment after trying to get him to give me a time frame with no luck. I won't do this again. Tied up the card for about 10 days now.

The gall of people amazes me. I guess I'm in the minority...but I've never bid on anything without the expectation that I'll pay within two days of auction end.

Two good options, either he pays you now or agrees to cancel the transaction. End of headache. If he tries door three make sure that you are polite but firm. It will help your NPB case.

The cynic in me sees him paying, then one-starring me on everything afterwards. *sigh*

Not anything you can do about that unfortunately.

Here is my reply:
Really can't hold it for that long. I listed due to needing some funds, and can sell locally before that. In the future, it might help to message someone prior to auction ending if you need two weeks in order to pay. If I'd have known, I might have been able to make other arrangements.
Not trying to be rude or anything. I'll be happy to cancel the transaction so you don't receive a non-paying strike. Hope you understand where I'm coming from.

Looks reasonable to me but some of these wing nuts want the stars and the moon and will still neg or ding even if you can deliver.

Oh trust me, I know. lol :)!
It amazes me that after 15 years on ebay, there is always a new scam or wrinkle, no matter the system.

It doesn't help that Ebay keeps slanting the playing field in their direction. I've been an Ebay buyer/seller going on about 14 years and I never had a single issue in hundreds of transaction up until about 18 months ago. Since that time it seems to be rare to have one without an issue.
