He clearly can't play 3rd anymore. Unfortunately the Nats signed Laroche to a multi year deal or I think we would all be watching Zimm play first. What should the Nats do? Sucks having to hold your breath every time someone hits a routine grounder to 3rd.

If the problem is still his arm, there's an option for him to move to second if it's open, but that's not usually a move to be made during the season for an established player.

I agree...the Nats are in a strange situation considering Zimm has won a couple Gold Gloves and is a 100$mil+ player. I hope they figure it out soon cause every time I look at a Nats box score I expect to see an E for Zimm.. even worse is that a couple losses can be attributed solely to Zimmermann

If I were them I'd put Zimmerman at 2nd and let Rendon have the 3rd base job.

2nd base? Ryan Zimmerman cannot go from 3rd base to one of the hardest positions in the field. A vetran 3rd baseman suddenly learning to play 2 sides of the field? I say no way. I think there is an eventual trade to the American league where he can DH and we can get some bullpen strength. Maybe even a Haren, Zimmerman combo deal.

No offense but if the kids on my son's 7 year old baseball team can learn to play almost all the positions in a year, so can a professional player. The main difference will be range at 2nd, not sure if he'd have enough or not.

Well if a 7 year old can do it, maybe Zimmerman can catch, put Rendon at 3rd and move Ramos to 2b.

I'm pretty sure the level of competency needed on your 7 year old's team may be slightly different than a MLB team.

Second base requires a lot more agility and speed than Zimm has IMO.

The Orioles would be an awesome fit for DH, their payroll could handle his contract and he would bring some Nats fans back to the O's. Zimmerman for Gausman straight up?

Comparing a baseball team full of 7 year olds to an MLB team? Seriously?

A 3rd Baseman like Zimmerman is not going to move to 2nd base at this point in his career. To play second base you need quick feet movement which Zimmerman does not have. Moves like that only happen with special players like Rose or Ripken.

Isn't that what I said, I didn't know if he had the range. Otherwise I laugh at people who say you can't learn how to play a different position. A ground ball to you is a ground ball. Moving from the infield to outfield is harder.

No offense taken, but your kids little league team is a little different than Major League baseball, and over 99% of all Little Leagers never learn to play a Major League position. The major difference would be changing what he has done his entire life, which is play to the left side far more than the right. This switch is near impossible(read all the internet press about Rendon's inability to play second base, though the Nats tried)

LOL at the comparison to Little League baseball.... hahaha!

Zimm's range isn't that great. He has a quick first step. But he isn't running and getting to balls like Espinosa. And I think Espinosa's bat will come around. If not, Lombardozzi will replace him, not Zimmerman.

Zimm's throwing motion is TERRIBLE. I've watched him warming up... he looks like he's aiming. I think his biggest problem is between his ears. The good news is, he's hitting the ball really well. Best Nats hitter in the last month.

I agree that the issue with Zimmerman is between his ears. I figured the issue with his throwing motion last years was the floating bone chips in his elbow, but it seems to have continued into this season after getting the elbow cleaned up in the offseason. It's so odd that he would suddenly forget how to throw after being a gold glove third baseman.

Though he might not be ideal in the field at second base, I'd put Zimm there over Espinosa; at least he wouldn't strike out 200 times! I'd put Lombardozzi at 2nd right now anyway (and would have done so last year, too). He doesn't have Espi's power, but the guy at least puts the ball in play. I'm not sure how many more years the Nats are going to wait for Espinosa's bat to come around. I'm a bit worried about LaRoche's bat, so we might see Zimm at first in the next two years anyway.

There is ZERO chance Baltimore ever considers this.
