they generally are bought so people can try and scam the card companies... say hey I hit this redemption in a box I bought and the site says the code was already used?!?

really? why don't you think someone would pay 50 bucks when they can get a 100 dollar or more card out of it? that doesn't make sense that you think someone would pay 50 bucks to hold onto a worthless redemption card but they wouldn't pay 50 bucks to try and scam a card company for a card that could be worth a couple hundred bucks if they can convince them...

well the companies keep record of the redemption numbers and were these cards went to so this does not happen

I keep all my used redemptions but would sell if someone wanted one for a PC. I have put Redemptions in my sets for cards that were never made though.

I have heard rumors that people will take a coin and scratch the code so that you cant see some of the letters or numbers, then they can contact Topps and claim that they just scratched too hard. Topps may believe them to because I know of people who genuinely did scratch too hard and removed a couple of letters or numbers and couldnt enter their redemption in the system. Topps needs to improve the quality of their redemptions, along with pretty much every other aspect of their company.

However, there are some people out there that really do collect redeemed redemption cards. Plus, you will also get the people that are too stupid to read the title and description who just bid on a card thinking they are getting a great deal. So you probably have a mix of scammers, redemption collectors, and people who cant read who bid on and win these cards

That doesnt stop someone from saying.. Look i have the redemption in hand and a receipt and your box... Show me who got it.. And see if they have redemption and receipt in hand... Prove to me they didnt just enter codes and get lucky. Panini and topps really cant say anything hecause they screw up by having the redemptions in products guaranteeing certain things. All it takes is a customer saying thats ok ill stop buying your products and expect a call from the bbb. Are they gona want to a) put out that fire and watch a bunch of customers flock yo conpetitors or b) accept they know so n so is scamming but throw them a card thats just sitting in the warehouse collecting dust that will shut them up....

Russel Wilson Robert Turbin Five Star Dual Auto Redemption Card 20 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/261218602035?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649)

This is the other reason people bid on them douchebags like this guy try and trick people with deceptive listings. I actually had this in my watch list and double checked before making a bid.. Looked down the description and its listed as used. This should be in the title and at the start of the description....

I know alot of super collectors that buy them. I think it's nuts - but their theory (which I suppose I understand) is that it's still a "card" of that player they need in their PC.

If someone collects RG3, and he only has say 25 of a certain redemption card, then there are only 25 potential "redeemed" cards out there - and probably less since people trash them. There could only be like 10 "redeemd RG3" cards left that exist for example.

Super Collectors often want one of those 25, along with the actual card, for their PC's to be "complete"

I don't get it - but I don't super collect.

Wow what a scumbag. Knowing how ebay screws up watch the buyer try to get a refund and ebay refuses it since the seller technically did list it as used, even though he hid it by entering it far down on the page. Probably will be the only case that ebay rules in favor of the seller. I have no faith in ebay's customer service to spot a scam, be it from the buyer or the seller.

That listing reminds me of a pujols auto from a couple years ago. The seller had a picture of the pujols and described it at the top like 'You will receive this Pujols auto'. However, if you scrolled all the way to the bottom of the page, the seller hit the 'enter' key about 40 times and in tiny print he wrote ...or 5 jersey cards Total slime

Yea crap like this hurts ebay a lot. You would think they would have a more competent group of people looking at the card sales.

And this guy complete scumbag. Looked at his feedback...... And this is why people get scammed.. Bunch of people have had issues with him selling items that were damaged or took 2 weeks late and some reason they still left positives or neutrals. Only one guy had the balls to ding him. Its like everyone on ebay has a 100 or high high 90s feedback rating so it doesnt even matter anymore
