View Full Version : Which running QB's backup sees the field first in 2013?

I've read a few articles lately about the durability of running QBs and so it got me thinking: Which of the Big Four running QBs do you think will go down next season and we'll see their backup start a few games?
(I hesitated on putting Michael Vick up there because I don't know for sure that he'll be the Week 1 starter.)

I put it as mccoy only so my prime booklet goes up in value! ;)

I went with RGIII - coming off a major injury usually leads to condition and repeated injuries.
RG3 is already injured and the others aren't

i voted for the RGIII option.
however, i have a new question. who starts when both Kaep and McCoy get hurt? :p

I'd be really nervous if I was someone holding onto a bunch of Kaepernick's high end stuff. He came so far out of nowhere that he really caught defenses unprepared (see Tebow), but as we've seen time and time again - defenses adjust. Not only that, but he enjoyed so much immediate success that it will be interesting to see how, from a maturity standpoint, he handles things once the going gets tough. If he shows any hints of a tantrum, I could see Harbaugh benching him for a game just to keep the ego in check. (one of the reasons I think Harbaugh is one of the best coaches in the league)

RG3 for sure. He also has the most qualified backup, so pulling him won't be as hard as pulling any one of the other three. Though, knowing Shanahan's track record of handling injuries, it may take two blown knees to get Cousins in the game.

I voted RG3 because of him already being injured. Hopefully Russell never has to deal with this, I would cry.

Colt Mcoy,Seahawks will put Kaepernick in a body bag the second game of the year which is a nationally televised game in Seattle!

RG3, just so undersized, he is going to get banged around pretty good especially now that defenses can see he can be knocked out of games

difference is unlike Tebow, Kaepernick can run AND throw the ball well if the run isn't there

It's a tie when they all go down in week 2?
Just kidding... that would be horrible, one of them has to make it to week 4 at least....

Valid points. However, if Kaepernick can avoid a sophomore slump, this will be my face ---->

Technically, it would be junior junk, seeing as this is his third year in the League. Also, for being such a word wizard, surprised you misspelled "sophomore."

Are we going with third year QB or second year starter?

The biggest difference is Kapernick has shown a very good ability to avoid the hits. Tebow would plow into people and take a beating. RG3 was doing that too but I suspect that his injury will make him become shall I say more kapernickish?
My answer like the majority is Kirk Cousins. I've been saying all along that due to the fact that RG3 pushed himself back into the playoff game and said he was physically ok when clearly he wasn't the coaching staff really has no choice other then to delay him getting back onto the field. If they rushed him back and he was to re-injure the knee it likely would cost some one a job, I would not at all be surprised to see Kirk Cousins start game one for the Redskins. A game where I expect the Redskins beat the mess out of the Eagles on Monday Night Football and introduce Chip Kelly to the feeling he's going to have until he leaves of why in the hell did he ever leave Oregon :p

Kapernick
RG3
Kirk Cousins
Russell Wilson
Andrew Luck
Ryan Tannehill
Think about how many QB's your talking about when it comes to that dreaded sophomore slump :p

I'll go out on a limb and say that only Tannehill and Wilson have more "success" (loosely defined) in Year 2. I think Luck will improve, but the Colts may have a worse record. I think both Kaepernick and RG3 will have "slumps" compared to their first year as a starter.

haha thats funny i can see 49ers putting the seahawk's midget of a quaterback into a body bag while most of the seahawks defensive players are suspended with ped violations

for the sake of the enjoyment of watching football and keeping card values from plummeting, I hope they all play the whole season with maybe a minor injury here or there. but the most likely has got to be rg3, although he seems to be smart enough to realize he can't take all those hits like he did last year.

What seahawks defensive player has been busted for PED's?
This thread alone should increase the value of my Kirk Cousins PC.

You guys are underestimating the impact RG3's injury had on not only himself but all running QB's with a great arm.
I guarantee the redskins will hardly run the option this year if possible. The redskins are probably implementing a classic shanahan type offense now. RG3 has a HOF'er quality arm with great intangibles. They simply don't need to risk it with the option, His body is not built to take all of those hits and that is one thing you cannot change.
I voted for the underdog in this poll (Cam Newton) because due to the panthers horrible season, I think they try to run the option a lot this year. He's not the smartest of the bunch and could have easily been injured the past 2 seasons with some of his decisions. Newton is better suited to take the hits then Wilson/RG3 though.
This is coming from a biased , huge RG3 fan with a lot invested in his cards BTW , lol.... I really hope I'm right.

Kaep and russell Wilson will both get hurt in week 2 opening up the NFC west for Sam Bradford and the rams improved aerial game.
