View Full Version : QUESTION OF THE DAY: Is Blake Griffin A Franchise Player Or Just Media Hype?

In another attempt to stir up some friendly debate and liven up the forums during work hours, I thought that I would pose this question. Before the season I heard about how Blake is improving, hes going to become a more complete player...and now I am hearing from others that it would be difficult for Cp3 to win anything with Blake as his #2 due to limitations in his game.

So is Blake Griffin a legit franchise player? Or is he just media hype due to great dunks and funny commercials?

Please post your answer and a short reason why.

Keep it clean.

They had the regular season in clippers history. Win the conference over warriors and lakers despite having a deadbeat coach and questionable owner. Looked good in early playoffs but lost because Blake got injured. And to a team that is now a legit finals contender and pushing hard on the spurs.

He is neither. He is not quite good enough to a be a franchise player, but he is very talented, and is much more than just "Media Hype".

He's a star but not a super star. if the clippers get a good trade offer in a few years, i'd take it. those knees worry me.

I believe he was trying to say that EVERY participant in EVERY dunk contest could have done that dunk. Not that exciting.

I see your point, but aside from LBJ, Griffin is the most exciting dunker in the game. I don't think there was one Clipper game this year that didn't highlight Blake dunking on someone's head.

I dont think anyone would ever doubt Blake's dunking ability...but can you count on him to be you 1.B or even your #2?

Well with Chris Paul on your team he will never be number 1. Cp3 is the face of the franchise. And it doesn't hurt having Paul lobbing your alley oops! Lol

Well he's averaged 20ppg and 10rpg during his career so he seems like a solid #2...

the backlash is probably coming full circle at this point.

he was hyped and became overrated.

now he is severely underated.

is he a franchise superstar? not necessarily, but how many 24 year olds have averaged 20/10/3.5 for their career over multiple seasons?

his digressing numbers are cause for concern, but he also singlehandedly made the franchise matter again before CP3 even came.

he is improving in some areas (more polished game than last season, though that is saying very little), and i think as an overall player he will still get to become a constant 20-22/10 guy.

superstar? no - there are only 5 or 7 of those in the league.

star? yes. i (and this will upset some people who are ready to annoint him) put him on par with now with Paul George, even though George's arc seems pointing more steeply upward at the moment.

i guess my answer to the question is "neither."

Hate to be this guy but its too early to say. while CP3 is there I will say he certainly will not be the team leader and he is too media friendly and happy, like a sane Dwight Howard almost. guys who win have an edge, MJ, Kobe, Duncan, Lebron (now) even Dirk. They were bitter, hungry, and worked harder than anyone else.

Still doesn't have consistent jumpshot. He is going to have to do more than dunk. They say he is like top 2 or 3 PF. Not buying it.

Best answer in this thread, sums up my thoughts perfectly. :)!

to me in the right situation he could be franchise, but I don't see the clippers mesh together like they should for him to be that there. i'd say b level allstar with alot of hype around him.
