Summary:

Had a $200 itunes card
100% sure it was loaded with $200 and the code was never scratched
Sold it on eBay
Shipped to buyer insured
Buyer claims card is empty

What do I do here? Pretty worried, is there a way I can see who spent the card?

Wasn't sure where to put this, so this seemed like an alright spot.

Any help appreciated

think your screwed best bet would've been to just give them the code via email

Email wouldn't have protected anything. 1)buyer could still say it was empty 2) buyer could file an item not as described case. paypal would not accept an email as proof of delivery

Selling gift cards on ebay is extremely risky. There really is no protection at all if you run into a scammer. I don't know for sure, but I highly doubt there is any way to track were the sale went since there is no way to trace the card to you originally.

You could call iTunes, but you'd need the buyer to scan the card for you and then you call iTunes and ask him where the money on that card went to.

Which code? The one that you scratch off or the on just on the back? I have pictures of both sides, and why couldn't I ask the buyer for a scan of the back if you are talking about the scratch off code....I may have to call eBay and explain why it is important, but will that work?

the one you scratch off.
And they will tell me who/when it was used?

Apple should be able to track the email address of the account the gift code was applied to.

Question is will they go that far to help you?

eBay limits how man you can sell (1 gift card per month right??) I've been able to pick up some of the good selling ones (Target, Macys, Nordstrom, Apple, iTunes, Popular Chain Restaurants) on craigslist for up to 60% off the cards' value.

If you know the gift card side of eBay- It's possible to sell a $100 Target Gift Card for $99. same with iTunes, so youre able to flip for quick cash.

I always take a picture with my gift card and ID next to each other. I've never had someone claim to not get it or to be "empty" so i havent had to use a pic ever. better than no back up!
