I know this is talked about all the time, especially with Tony Allens fine from the head injury, but can anyone tell me why Dwyane Wade hasn't received a fine yet from the 'push' on the baseline the other day??

This thread will probably take off because someone will think the Heat are being singled out.
That being said many starts this season have flopped and haven't been fined.

Yeah, maybe it will! But this is not a Heat specific question by any means!
I know they have missed a few throughout the season, but when there is only 1 game a day, there is no excuse for plays like that going unnoticed!
It is essentially a player making the ref look like an idiot. It is blatant disrespect and manipulation! Should be punished by a game on the sidelines, not $5K IMO
And I am not talking about just the Wade play, I mean all flops! (Even Manu for those who think I am being a homer, lol)

The NBA has no problem fining the average or bench players, but they seem to hve an issue fining the star players. I assuming this would make the league look bad if their marquee players were viewed as floppers.
The refs should be able to tell what is a flop and what is a foul. It is their full time job. If must people suck at their job they're fired lol

Plenty of players would have paid tons of fines... I just wish they would treat stars and the average NBA player the same.

You're right that many people overreact when the Heat flop but wouldn't you say the flop more than the average team? Clippers also come to mind.
My comments have been about stars in general and not any certain team.

No, I am being serious. If people are so concerned about flopping in general, write a letter to Stern. I hate flopping as much as the next guy and would love to see it stop, but he needs to get serious about it.
I am not sure he gets over to Blowout Forums... probably not on his reading list.

Because the NBA is a business. To us its entertainment but not to them. To fine and limit stars for flopping and calling small fouls they're shooting themselves in the foot. Think about it, if every time (an example) Wade flops and the referees call it Wade wouldn't play the way he does. This leads to fans not been happy and unhappy fans means less money.

At least you are a LeBron fan that can admit he's a flopper. They need to just get rid of the $5,000 fines and issue suspensions. $5,000 is nothing to most of these players. An automatic suspension would have a huge effect on flopping. This is for all players not just Lebron.

Aren't they only fined if it was called a foul? Neither of those plays got called.

I haven't seen anything that says a foul has to be called. All I found were these statements:
"The primary factor in determining whether a player committed a flop is whether his physical reaction to contact with another player is inconsistent with what would reasonably be expected given the force or direction of the contact,"
"Flops have no place in our game -they either fool referees into calling undeserved fouls or fool fans into thinking the referees missed a foul call" Stu Jackson
So based on the second statement, it looks like a foul does not have to be called.

Could be biased but I think the Stephenson and Allen "flop" as people are calling it was more of a flinch. He wasn't looking directly at allen or what he was doing. Lance saw his elbow come up and reacted just about the same as I'm sure anyone would have, just my thought process though...

I think the players are amused by fans complaining about flopping. I think they play their own little games about who can do the most obvious flop and get away with it. Just a way for them to have some fun at all the butt hurt peoples expense. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't have money on it.
Instead of $10,000 for a hit on an opposing quarterback, the put $10,000 on the best flop of the game.

"Some guys have been doing it for years, just trying to get an advantage," James said on Monday. "Any way you can get an advantage over the opponent to help your team win, so be it."
"It happens," Dwyane Wade said. "We would have no NBA possibly if they got rid of all the flopping."
:confused::confused::confused::confused: I don't get Wade's comment. Is he serious???????

Flops are part of the game just like trash talking. In this way you can distract the focus of your opponent and most of the time they will make crazy decision or play. The result will be a turnover or a technical foul or worst ejection from the game.
Flops brings more drama in the game.

I dont understand the problem with flopping. if you can get an advantage why not try it? It is not like its 1 way if you flop and they see it you have a 4 on 5 basically. Its trying to help team win I like it.

Yeah, I agree! It's like playing poker! It is so much more fun when you all try and see what cards each other has! ;)
It is cheating to manipulate a refs call! It should not be part of the game.

Because Dwayne Wade has the fine money sitting in the coat pocket of a suit he hasn't worn in 5 years. He forgot the $5K was in there. The "fines" for flopping is the dumbest thing ever for any NBA player.
Fining Wade $5K is the equivalent of fining me $16 at work. Hardly something that would be enforced.
League needs to figure out a better way to handle it.

Since NBA does not fine enough players due to flopping, the official flopping title from NBA has very little to say. I'm sure fans can count more than 50+ players who do flopping on a daily basis.
I really think NBA should suspense player, even for a half game.

I'm a Bulls fan and I can proudly say that no one on the team flops like anyone on the Heat does. Literally their entire team flops. Yes, Stephenson flopped above but Ray Allen did throw an elbow at him. Both plays were in a way cheating or dirty.
When the Bulls had Asik and he flopped for calls I laughed at it at first but then was a bit embarrassed to see it.
Jordan never flopped, and I mean never. Find me a video of Jordan flopping. I dare you. He played in a era where the only players that flopped were unathletic white guys like Vlade Divac and Bill Laimbeer.
Because of that I was never a fan of it, and think that the best players in the NBA shouldn't have to flop, but apparently I'm wrong since the team with the best players that already get their fair share of calls and then some thinks they need to flop in order to get an even more lopsided advantage. Kind of pathetic that team is tied 2-2 with this Indiana team if you think about it that way.

Im in no means a heat fan, but flopping is apart of the game and for people to be fined for it is ridiculous. If any of you ever played basketball in high school/college then its obvious you know you have to sell the play to get a call. I rather see the NBA be more lenient with aggressive play like the old days, i'm talking bad boys/barkley era.

Here is what I find funny.
You try to justify why Stephenson flopped, but in any instance where Miami flopped, it was just uncalled for.
"Oh Ray Allen threw an elbow"... you call that an elbow and a justification for Lance's reaction? That is a joke.
I am sick of flopping all around, but I am also sick of the holier than thou fans who think their team doesn't do anything wrong while condemning actions of another team. Bulls players flop. Do they do it as much as Miami? Probably not. But flopping is flopping. You can't go around and post stupid pictures of one player and not look at your own damn team.
And hey look, another Jordan conversation! He played in a different era than the players do now. Flopping is part of the game now, like it or not, that is how it works. You would be hard pressed to find consistent flopping when Jordan played. That was a different time.

if players can get fined for 'flopping' why can't officials get fined for making the wrong call on a flop?
The league has a huge problem with the inconsistency of the officiating and it is starting to ruin games.

I honestly think the flopping is a bigger problem because the flopping is done to fool the referees into making the wrong call. Stop the flop and you'll somewhat stop the bad officiating.

Or maybe the officials are to easily fooled?
It all comes back to the inconsistency of the refs. The calling of a play once and then not the second time, the differential treatment to different players, the wrongly anticipation of calls, etc etc
