Can someone give me direction on which way makes the best sense in selling mid range value singles and small lots?

I always use BIN/BO over an auction. This way you tend to get a fair price (unless you want to do some type of auction with a set min bid...I'd avoid setting reserves)

Do a little research on the past selling prices.

Auction Final Value fees run 8.75% up to $25 and then 3.50% $25-$1000
UNLESS you use the free 5/month then it is 8.75 of the total to a limit.

BIN (Fix Price FVFees) are 12% up to 50 and then 6% for $50-$1000

So if you assume everything is equal and you sell 10 $10 lots via auction you pay $8.75 in final value fees and $12 in FVF if fixed price. You're fees are 50%higher in the fixed price fees.

SORRY late posting, same info as above.
I also use BIN/BO more often now.
Just concider what you want, if you are in a hurry to sell or if you don't mind holding on to the item.

Auctions fees: 7 days
.99 - 0.15 1.00-9.99- 0.35 10.00 - 24.99- 0.55
8.75% 1st 25.00 then 3.50% remainder over 25.01

Bin/Bo 30 days
0.35 no matter what price
12% 1st 50.00 then 6% remainder over 50.01

Bin/Bo: 30 days and I only accept what I want.

Just keep in mind if someone makes an offer you do not like and then you decide to revise you auction, you are restricted as to what you can change.

Thanks for the help. I have been selling on ebay since 05 and never tried the BIN/BO. The next group of things I am going to try it.

Ebay really takes sellers to the cleaners on BIN/BO, plus paypal takes it bite out of you on the back end.

If you think your item is something that is relatively hot, then I would do auction. You will save money on fees and you can sometimes get more than you anticipated if some people get into a bidding war.

I like BIN/BO as a concept; I just find myself paying Ebay a lot of money for it since I sell stuff in the $50-100 range quite often. This has led me to gravitate more towards the auctions.
