Most cards aren't created in Pristine condition, which is why they are so valuable. You can never assume a card is in perfect condition because it was a redemption.

Most cards are never in gem mint condition... do you think everyone just damages their cards?
There's a reason 9.5s are rare, they wouldn't be if every redemption was one.

I've gotten redemps straight from the manufacturer before. It still doesn't make them high grades though. The cut could have been off making the card off centered.
