Larry Bird is the best white player to ever play the game.

Who was the most athletic?
- John Havlicek (could run all day) but, in terms of hops, probably Tom Chambers or Chase Budinger.

Who was the best dunker?
- Tom Chambers

Who was the most clutch?
- Larry Bird or Jerry West

Who was the best rebounder?
- Bob Pettit or Dave Cowens (modern day it would be Kevin Love)

Who was the best passer?
- Larry Bird, Pete Maravich, John Stockton or Steve Nash.

You should also add best shooter, in which case I'd say Mark Price.

wow it was way back in 96 he won the contest..
yea he was over the line by maybe 3-4 inches, but prob could of made it from the line as he had alil to spare on the finish also..

Has anyone in this thread suggested that one race is superior to another?

a basketball player is a basketball player, the color of his skin doesn't matter to me that's it.

You'r also right, racist is maybe a little to strong.

The thing is that I don't get the reason behind making a thread like this but that's just my humble point of view.

Have you ever seen footage of him? His career was ruined by injuries, but he still had his moments. He's not an ATG but he was an elite passer and shooter when he wanted to and was healthy.

I can name a handful of players that have had better stats, careers and accolades than Pete. Im still waiting on someone to tell me what Pete DID to be considered the best? He might have had a good college career, but his NBA career was nothing special. I dont care if he got injured. Thats like me putting Greg Oden as one of the best ever if he never got injured? Is that jusitfiable?

John Stockton was a better passer than Pete by a mile.

Really? Averaging 24/4/5 in an injury plagued career is nothing special? Don't forget there was no three point line back then so many SG's scoring numbers are lower than what they could be. When they adjusted his college stats with a simulated three point line his scoring jumped to something around 56 points a game! I'd imagine his NBA scoring would be somewhere around 29 per game for his career if they did the same there. Stockton was a great passer, but remember that was his job, he was a PG. You can't compare point guard to other positions assist wise. Both were tremendous passers, just in different aspects. Same goes for Bird.

Those are just what ifs. They are not actual stats. You dont get to stardom based on what could have happened. Jay Williams could have been the great basketball player of all time until his motorcycle injury. Therefore we can assume he technically was a legend even though he never did anything close to being one.

I personally dont thank 24/4/5 are crazy numbers. Factoring in a short career they mean even less. I rather take a 15/5/5 guy over a 15yr span avg than a 24/4/5 over a couple of years.

To each their own on how much emphasis they put on what could have been. Just dont pass it as an actual stat if it never happend.

how? since the 3 pointer has been instituted, the nba scoring average has gone down roughly 12 points per game..
