DILEMNA
According to my 6th grade teacher, who ruined my perfect spelling grade.
Dilemna or Dilemma (http://www.dilemna.info/index.php)

I've always spelled it "Dilemma," though, after reading this thread, I'm not sure I've ever actually spelled it out before now.

the N has always stuck with me after only getting an A instead of an A+
on a spelling test in elementary school.
then I got a couple points off a college Lit essay for spelling it with the N
what a dilemna !

Um....no. I believe what Oxford has to say before I would trust your crappy 6th grade teacher.

I got my 8th grade (subsititute)History teacher fired after she took a bunch of points off an essay because I used an apostrophe after a proper name that ended in S to indicate a possessive
(example Russ' dilemna instead of Russes dilemna)
according to her that could only be done with Jesus' name.
I didnt mean to get her fired I was just PO'd about my grade
being affected by "religion in the classroom" so I complained to the Vice Principal.
You've been warned! ;)

Actually, it would be "Russ's dilemma/dilemna," or "Jesus's name". With possessives, one would use apostrophe, S for a singular noun. For most plural nouns, it would be just the apostrophe (ex. "Dwight Howard is the Lakers' problem").

English was always my worst subject.
I may have incorrectly described the situation, it was 30+ years ago.
Whatever the reason behind it,
" Russ' " in and of itself was only deemed wrong because the teacher insisted
that particular placement of an apostrophe only applied to Jesus.
so
They sent her off to Syrinx ;)

I guess if I am going to ask it, I may as well ask it here!
How come you type like you do?
Eg.
I went to the store yesterday
and bought a box of pancake mix with some syrup
Brought it back to my place to make breakfast
(Or Eg. 2
Whatever the reason behind it,
" Russ' " in and of itself was only deemed wrong because the teacher insisted

I have been curious for a while now, hope you don't mind the question.

At which point, she exclaimed "Hold Your Fire!" and asked them to stop this Witch Hunt, check her Vital Signs, and roll down their Power Windows. :)!

Dont mind at all.
A point made in the middle of a paragraph on the internet often gets overlooked + poetic license.

LOL - I think it more the result of people seeing "wall of text" and shutting down.
I think most people skim thru threads as opposed to actually reading them.
Take Jons thread about union worker who got mad as an example.
Is any one really reading biggzig vs jello ?
I'm not.
But if one of them happened to make a singular point in this fashion,
I might have at least noticed it.
