Sealed Boxes of Topps Baseball Early 70's

Wondering if anyone can give opinions on value for sealed wax boxes from 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, and 1975. I have a friend who says he has sealed boxes from these years and wants to sell them, and of course he has no idea on the value. I could probably guess but vinatge is something I dont do too much of. I assume these would be very rare.

I would start with bbc to see what their buy/sell rates of said product would be then go from there as ot best way to sell them.

If they are legit - they're worth a lot. 5/6th series 72 Topps PACKS got for $250+ each. 75 packs go for $40-50 each.

oh to bust a box of 75, but will never have that much scratch myself, though I could trade a very unique Stevie Ray Vaughn autograph for one. please let us know how this turns out. please advise he sell them to a very long-time, reputable dealer who wouldn't search-and-reseal them. Fritsch Cards comes to mind. Then I could buy a pack.

How did he come about the boxes? Seems like an amazing stash for someone that knows nothing about the value.

I did not know boxes weren't sealed back then, and I don't think he even referred to them as that way. He said still in the original box. My non vintage a$$ added the word sealed. ;) Why doesn't he know the value? Not sure, but I come across a lot of people who have stuff of value and don't know it until someone points it out. I am not interested in buying them myself but I was trying to help find a fair price since he doesn't know where to start.

Make sure he doesn't sell them on ebay. An overwhelming majority of unopened vintage on ebay is bogus and the best buyers know that. There would also be a premium on an intact unopened box so selling by the pack doesn't make sense either. I'd have him contact BBCE and D&A's. They would probably travel to him to inspect.

Having said all that (and I hope I'm wrong), most of these stories have a resealed ending. Best of luck.

Yes and no. Many of the larger AHs have sold (and continue to sell) resealed material and aren't in a position to know (or care) if what they're selling is legit. There's a reason you see ridiculous disclaimers in the edscription of lots of unopened they sell.

I'd avoid ebay for sure, you run the risk of running into someone who could reseal the pack and return for a refund.

when buying these boxes , how do we know all the packs belonged to that box. its a huge risk

i was always told u can grade the boxes but i dont know much of that at least it would prove its authentic

Sounds like that would be an awesome find! But also sounds like it could be on the too good to be true side. Unopen packs from that era sell for big money, especially if "an expert" can varify that they have not been resealed.

I do remember a story in the early 80s about a guy in Alaska who ran across some unopen packs from the late 60s and early 70s in an old general store in a remote town. He didn't want to seem greedy and only bought a few packs of each. Needless to say he could have kicked himself for not buying the whole stash!

I would note the accompanying text:

anyhow I thought it was a neat picture and illustration of how easy it is to seal anything these days. I can recall 'helping' the drugstore owner opening his shipment of new goodies from the wholesaler when I was a kid and can not recall any shrink wrapping on them back then.

I also know, thanks to threads like these, there are only a tiny handful of dealers I will select from when my dream of ripping some 1975 just one more time in life finally does come true.

I do hope this thread comes true and a lot of legit sealed packs enter the marketplace.



Oh and if anyone would want to trade empty boxes I have about a dozen from 79-89 I would trade for an empty 75 (not mini).

those boxes are shrink wrapped . but not by topps . i beleive they are shrink wrapped for the sole reason of keeping what's inside safe from any damage during shipment . like the packs falling out of the box
