Just got knocked down from straight 5's thanks to someone! I ship within 24 hours, most times same day (so I'm sure that ding was due to the postal service). Shipping fee's are at 2.50, so I'm not exactly getting rich there (? for anyone doing free shipping...have you been dinged there yet?)...ugg!

There are idiots on eBay that you could ship for free, and hand them their card as soon as the auction ends and they would not give you all 5's. I also ship next day or same day and boxes go priority and still get e-mails wondering where their item is.

My favorite are the ones who wait 10-14 days to pay you then email you the next day and want to know where the item is.

I have a question for you guys. Most of you know that I am a buyer/collector instead of a seller. I purchased two cards from a highly rated seller in one Ebay auction with a "buy-it-now" option. I paid immediately following hitting the "confirm bid" button. This auction was won and paid for in early July. I received my cards yesterday, and they were postmarked on August 8th.

I gave this seller a 5 on the other three rankings, but I gave him a 3 on the shipping time. Would you sellers be offended by this? I doubt any of you would take a month to ship a package that was paid for immediately, but if so, would the buyer be justified in giving you a 3?

For the record...this was the first time I gave a rating less than 5 since this new system came in to play.

Rating inflation. If that doesn't get a 1 for shipping time, then what does? ESPECIALLY because the ratings are anonymous you should feel comfortable leaving true ratings on a scale of 1 to 5.

Just about everyone is a 4.x in all four categories because so many people give 5s for everything. The reason the rating system is useless is because of the people that leave the ratings.

I am not picking on you. For everyone to be a 4.x in everything means that everyone is leaving 5s quite often. And there are no hard and fast rules about what a 5 should be or what a 2 should be. But I will say that waiting a month to ship deserves a 1 for shipping time and maybe for communication too if the seller never said that they were going to wait a month to ship.

They'd of been dinged for shipping time for being that long. Thing Ebay rules require items to be shipped within 3 bus. days. Shoot, he'd of gotten the famous "has my item been shipped email" from me and I'll wait 14 days before I send that one (if the paypal shipping has been used I generally wont send it since I've got a tracking number).

Wheeler, NO. I think a low star rating is acceptible w/ some sort of justification as to "why" but that is entirely up to you. Lately I've been writing in my feedback DAY PAID, DAY ITEM RECEIVED. GOOD/BAD CARD DESCRIPTION & a quick comment on S&H SPEED/PRICE. I 99.9% of the times pay by Paypal and the last few auctions I've won I paid quickly and didn't get them shipped out for another week or so. Like you, If the item was nice I gave them stars accordingly. If they communicated w/ me about when the item was/would have been shipped, stars accordingly. I always double check the price of S&H I paid for and give stars accordingly, and lastly I've dinged a few people on S&H speed. I think a week for an item to get in the mail, especially in just a bubble mailer and Paypal printed mailing label unacceptable, an easy 3 stars for feedback.

I am so glad I asked. I'm a very patient person. If I end up getting what I paid for, even if it takes longer than it should, I feel there was "no harm, no foul", and I would leave very positive feedback. I completely understand, and agree with, all that you guys are saying, and I will definitely do a better job of rating sellers how they should be rated from now on.

I never did get an explanation of why it took so long, but again, I received what I was supposed to.

Wheeler- IMO you should have dinged them on communication also. You were more than generous on your ratings. There really is no excuse for a card to take more than a few days to get in the mail. I do understand some people only ship once a week and most of them say so in their auctions so you will know. I dont think there is any excuse to take so long to ship. If you can find time to list and sell then you find the time to give good service to those that pay promptly.

To be honest if you have a solid overall rating I don't think anyone really cares about the stars.

I never pay attention to the stars. I only look at the seller's numbered rating and percentage rating.

There are always people who are going to think $2.50 or $3 is high for shipping and won't give a 5-star rating for that reason. I don't know how many times I've gotten the "shipping was only $1.10, why'd you charge $2.99" responses.

thats why i started using paypal and not displaying the actual cost of shipping on the label :)!

It took me forever just to get 10 buyers to fill it out. Not that I list alot on fleabay but it seems alot are ignoring it and just leaving feedback.
As many of you know who deal with me, I ship FAST yet my shipping time is 4.9/5 Don't know how that can be since everything I ship is at the PO within 24 hours of getting paid:confused: Same goes for communication (4.9/5)
I can understand my 4.5/5 for shipping charges even though I thought I was average ($3. / $3.50 with DC) because some people think it should be whatever the actual postage amount is on the PO stamp. Same goes for my item as described (4.8/5) I have big scans and give a fair description to the best of my knowledge and eye sight. I don't get it but I don't lose sleep over it either.

I do not know how any of you guys can ship without dc anymore. I have been burned so many times that I have shipped all my items with it. I have still even had people question they did not get the item and file a report with paypal only to have to give them the dc stuff. I think you guys who ship without dc are taking a big risk. By the way I charge 3 with dc in that price.

It depends on what you're selling. I am not going to spend money on DC for a 99-cent card, or even a $10 card. 99% of my packages arrive without incident, and I am not going to lose money just to keep people from scamming me.

I agree with Juggie- I dont usually DC, only with big high $$ stuff- plus as discussed on the old board us hockey guys are lucky to some degree with the hockey buying folks 99.9% a honest lot. I have had only had 2 maybe 3 tranasctions over nearly 7 yrs of baying that I thought were suspect when folks said they did not get their stuff- I just gave them their money back and moved on..........

I agree that there is no reason to spend the money on DC on small items when most people are honest and I would guess that less than 1% of buyers are trying to scam you . Over the years with hundreds of transactions I have had only one buyer try something on me and left a bad feedback and file a claim with Paypal. The real funny part is that he e-mailed me and said that he received the item!! Can't let people like that ruin the whole auction experience.

As far as people complaining about a dollar margin built into the shipping and handling fee they should take that into account as most do with the bid price. The same person that complains about the dollar or so he thinks you have robbed him of does not realize or factor in the cost of the bubble mailer, time it takes to prepare and send off, or even the trip to the post office (gas, time, ect..).

I think that any seller has the right to factor in these costs with the shipping costs listed in each item. As a buyer and seller I realize that these costs are not always fixed and varies from seller to seller. I bought a card lot a couple of years ago and was so impressed by the way the seller packaged the items that I felt like I owed him money back. Any astute buyer will judge the shipping costs acceptable or unacceptable and bid accordingly.

super excellent points Dan- often times folks let the one bad apple ruin things for them. You have to accept most buyers and sellers as good, honest folks. I have one customer who I see at shows, who always has a decent eBay buyer story about shipping, lack of service or a damaged card but by the end of the story we all just laugh it off..............
