There are probably a few examples of this, but I will use Tobias Harris for this one
We all know about the double rookie class and that the 11/12 rookies are considered rookies in the 12/13 products....but the fact that Harris played his entire actual rookie year with the Bucks yet he is in his Magic uniform on his NT rookie. He never was on the Magic as a rookie

Good point. Panini just went crazy with this class. I guess it makes a more appealing card, being in his current uniform, but does kind of make a mockery of the double rookie class thing.

Its all the same. Mish mash of jerseys that are event worn.
1000% of any jersey cards made post 2000 are probably even worn and not actual game used.
I think it huts paying $15k for a Lebron exquisite RPA and its not even game used? I think that hurts more!!

People still buy GU card because of "game used"? Really? I thought everyone is paying extra for the sick patch and DON'T care where the jersey comes from.

That's how it is in football, for sure...
Need to clarify OJ - the rookies are all event worn, the veterans are easy to obtain and likely game worn. Whether they're jerseys or shorts or warmups or shooting shirts is another thing...

I'm pretty sure he was talking about the picture on the card and not the color of the jersey swatch

All the card companies do these days is verify the player wore the jersey they used in front of the card. THey dont specify when and where. Atleast not anymore. Even in 2003 when they used "photo shoot worn". Which photoshoot? Any? The rookie photoshoot? Or the one in UD's offices where the player comes in to sign a contract making him exclusive and they throw 500 jerseys on him and peel them off one by one?
First it started out with...
"The material on this card was worn by player x in an actual game"
Then it went to
"The material on this card was certfied to us to be worn during a game"
Then it went to
"The material on his card was certified to us to be worn during an event"
Then it went to
"The player worn material is guaranteed!" Guaranteed to be what? player worn??
Description over time become vague as the companies no longer buy the pieces themselves. They just buy them 3rd party and write up a tid bit saying we are free of any wrongdoing because to "The best of our knowledge" the 3rd party said it was real.

Soon it will be "this article of clothing had a chance to be worn by player x, possibly even in a game!"

game worn jerseys are simply too expensive. For the amount of jerseys that get cut up today for 1000 products, its must easier to get the player to wear 30 jerseys over one another for a second and take them off. They can now be labelled "Player worn". It does 2 things.
1. Makes the certification vague enough that you cannot dispute it
2. Its cheaper to do
3. Gives them a ton of inventory
Most collectors dont care (most, not all). Their main objective in this social collecting world is to obtain a card that others want! Its about getting the card and showing it off more so than the technical details on the card on whether its a legit jersey or game used.
