Hey Everyone-

I don't know how well-known this is, but I thought I'd share it anyways. I go to Target and buy UD Series 1 Retail Packs. Reason being, they put the magnetic security tags in packs containing young guns. You can easily feel the square outline of the magnet on the back of the pack. So far, I've been able to get about 12-15 of these packs in my area and have had a Young Gun in every single pack, including a Carey Price last night.

Again, don't know if this is well-known or not, but if not, it's a sure-fire way to get Young Guns if you collect them.

CubFan-

For your information I buy a lot of packs/boxes. I'm not a so-called "pack-searcher". In fact I hate just about any retail packs/boxes, but there's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG with buying certain packs as opposed to others. If someone were to tell you that pack "A" had a guaranteed autograph inside and pack "B" didn't, which one would you buy??? That's what I thought.

As far as being a newbie, I'm new to this forum but have been collecting for a very long time. So instead of riduculing me for offering you some free advice that I suggest you take, why don't you offer something more informative instead of worrying about what others have to offer.

might have to do with the full page ads in the beckett mags. I know they need to grow the business and all but this place has gone to hell in a handbasket the last month or so. People come on here and try to start group breaks and then get their panties all knotted up when people try to help them by telling them to build up some board cred first. They seem to think just because they've done X amount of youtube breaks I should send them $100 without pause. Especially when cousins have the hottest slot already reserved when the break is posted. What used to be case or at least multiple box assessments of breaks full of info has turned into alot of single box ,"how'd I do"," check my bucket type posts." If you ask what you should buy, at least say what you are looking for. Is it autos?gu?rookies?high dollar?set building? And now we have some knucklehead helping us rip off department stores, as well as the people, probably little kids, who buy the packs after this weenie feels all the magnetic security strips. Awesome.

Sure you are, you just said you feel the packs for the ones with security strips. not pack searching is just taking 8 packs from the box and buying them.

Hence the definition of newbie. Maybe you should go feel up a dictionary for a magnetic strip and while you're at it, look up some definitions.

Look, I'm not here to exchange little anecdotes back and forth about the morality of buying certain packs of cards as opposed to others. I dont' see anything wrong with taking advantage (legally) of a flaw in the system. Others may not agree, and I apologize for offending anyone.

Thanks for your advice, I will now (instead of ripping off my local target) notify them of this flaw and how people take advantage of there products...and also how can you take advantage of something legally? so if I go cash a check at the bank and they accidently give me $20 more than I was suppose to get, I should just say "hey, its not my fault"?

Cubfan hit it right on the head there!!! What happened to our Board???? This is getting to be really ridiculous!!! HEY NEWBIES, if you plan on coming on here expecting us to give you money or trying to tell us that pack searching is not wrong, please go back to Beckett!

Old members, I think it is our duty to continue to police this! If I am wrong please tell me so. What ever happend to talking about the hobby and bragging about our great pulls (or looking for sympathy over our terrible pulls)? This place is becoming a black market!

The bank example is a little extreme. I'm not taking anything that's not mine, nor am I stealing anything. I pay for the cards I buy and I choose which ones I want to buy. That said, I respect your opinion, and I'm not here to argue a perfectly legal issue, albeit a moral dilemma.

I do buy the $20 boxes. The packs were few and far between. Series 1 has been out for a while and I've only been to one retail store. It was just something I noticed in the packaging is all. Again, and this is the last time I'm going to comment on the issue, I am an avid collector and have been for some time now. I support the industry, and just like the rest of you, I've had some nice hits but more often than not, I've pulled junk. Everyone on here (well most people) seem like intelligent collectors, and my aim was not to offend anyone, thus I apologize. Furthermore, I had hoped to use this forum as a grounds to discuss box breaks, etc. and hope that everyone can look past my "newbie" error, as I actually do have some constructive thoughts I could offer. Again, I apologize.

for sure there are basically 4 rules on this site 1.) dont say you have certain ways to find certain cards i.e pack search 2.) dont ask "what box should I buy?" repeatedally 3.) dont ask "will you trade or look at my bucket" on every post and 4.) have fun :)

lately there is a ton of people doing 1-3, while all we want is 4!

enjoy your time here :)

What box should I get?

If I pull a jersey card...what is it worth?

Check my bucket for the scan. You send first and I need 100% Beckett Book value.

Oh ya...no scans but I pulled a 1/1 cut of a famous dead guy.

This is fun.

It's kinda like they are waiting for someone to say "a million bucks" for a $2.00jersey card, so they can sell it to you.

the one that still sticks out to me (and sorry if you read this person that posted it) was the Drew Brees/Reggie Bush Insert # 9/25 and saying how much do you think I could get saying its both there jersey #s lmao...its like a lebron card #1984/2000 and saying dude thats when he was born!

Alright guys, thanks for the advice. I'll do my best to abide by the rules :) I do have a serious question/problem...Does anyone here collect Black Diamond? I can honestly say it's one of the most frustrating products I've ever tried to collect!! I probably have at least 5 of every single/double diamond in the set and the box breakdowns are pretty weak.

A 1/1 is:

a cards stamped 1/1

a players jersey number

a 1 of 50 (first one made)

a 50 of 50 (last one made)

a college jersey number

a players favorite number

any type of error card

number of kids the player has

etc

The best this to do is just crack the top of the packs and take a peek. If you see something good...then buy it. Also the quad diamonds have security tabs on the side of the wrappers.

I think this might violate one of the rules (I think #5 if i remember correctly) but I have to ask, since there are a few people chatting right now. I struggled between buying a box of Trilogy and SP Game Used. I chose Trilogy---nice cards but I think I would've been better off shelling out a few more dollars for SP. Anyone agree or disagree?

Yeah, that was me. I do think a jersey number is way different than the year someone is born. The only reason I asked is because I was offered very little for it and I figured it would go for more than that. Most of those went cheap and mine did in fact sell for more. My appologies if that question was out of line. Hopefully the few forum members I have dealt with can tell you I'm not your average "newbie", tire kicker, pack feeler, etc,... and you'll never catch me saying the "M Word". For what its worth I respect your product knowledge Matt, and look forward to being on this forum in the future. If I need to be put in the spotlight for one simple question, so be it. Thanks guys.
