View Full Version : Superman Unchained #3; the first full appearance of The Wraith?

The Wraith was in two panels in SU #1, I think on one page in SU #2, and now is on the cover and has a full appearance in SU #3. This character seems awesome and this series is one of my top five reads right now. Do you guys think this will ever be considered a collectable issue, or too overproduced, or is SU #1 a better pick if The Wraith becomes a major DC character down the line?

I can definitely see The Wraith getting his own mini-series to describe his involvement with the U.S. Government from Nagasaki to current times. Not sure if you consider him a hero, anti-hero, or villain just yet, but it seems like he and Supes are headed for an epic clash pretty soon. I don' see Superman Unchained #3 as an instantly hot book, but if The Wraith gets a fair amount of appearances over the next decade, it wouldn't surprise me to see SU #3 become a $10-$20 book over time. What do you guys think?

If he becomes a staple character in the DC universe, then his first appearance will likely see some demand. However, at the print run that SU has, it will be some time before that book reaches that type of price point. Just my opinion.

Any numbers to support this?

I agree, which is why I was thinking about a decade out. I can see him in maybe the next four or five issues of SU, but after that I think he's a once a year character for a few issues until he gets his own mini-series (maybe six to ten issues) with his involvement in the United States war history from 1944 to the present. I LOVE the way they presented him throughout the first three issues, and you see his intelligence and compassion really come to the forefront in #3. From what I have seen I can't wait to read each new Superman Unchained and I would really like to see the Wraith in more books as well as a better back story, so I hope he isn't a random one and done character. Time will tell, and if you ever find clean copies of SU #3 in dollar boxes in the next few years, it should be an automatic buy.

So I have Superman Unchained on my pull list for my friend, and I thumbed through issue #3 today. I agree that the Wraith is pretty awesome.

To my understanding, that does cover the amount of Variants. With SU #1 was the first time we ever saw a separate list for Combo Packs, but there was no separate list for other Variants.
