I hate when reporters ask this question, they never take into account how the games have changed over the generations. Just like in golf where it went from wooden clubs and feather stuffed golf balls to where it is now, or in football where the ball and equipment has changed significantly over the years, basketball has also evolved. The type of ball, hoop, court, rules have all changed, and maybe the most significant change is to the nutrition and physical development of athletes. To compare athletes of different generations without taking into account all of the newest developments is ignorant at best.

A more accurate question would be to list the top basketball players of each decade.
