Panini America is combining two of the most popular aspects in all of baseball-card collecting — the company’s appealing Prizm printing technology and hot draft picks — for the debut release of 2013 Prizm Perennial Draft Picks Baseball, which will deliver the industry’s first on-card autographs of key players from the 2013 draft, a rainbow array of Prizm parallels and the first Panini America cards of Cuban slugger Jose Abreu.

Arriving in late October and highlighted by the first hard-signed cards of 2013 No. 1 overall pick Mark Appel and No. 2 overall pick Kris Bryant, 2013 Prizm Perennial Draft Picks Baseball will feature a 100-card base set and key inserts such as Prospect Signatures (100 cards), 2013 Draft Class (50 cards) and First Overall Picks (10 cards) — all of which will be paralleled by Red, Blue, Gold and 1/1 Black Prizms.

The product also will include on-card signatures of top minor leaguers such as Byron Buxton, Maikel Franco and Mike Foltynewicz.
Each 20-pack hobby box of 2013 Prizm Perennial Draft Picks Baseball will deliver four autographs, six Prizm parallels and three additional insert cards. We’ll have more information on the product right here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming weeks. But for now, here’s your first extended look . . .

People will buy because of Bryant and Appel, especially if they're in 2014 Bowman Baseball and not 2013 Bowman Draft.

A bit confusing here ... I suppose this is going to be in addition to EEE?

If that's the case, then I guess Appel and Bryant will have a ton of Panini autos before Bowman '14. Not sure what that means just yet, but it can't be a good thing!

good news is
this almost forces topps to put APPEL and BRYANT in 2013 BDPP rather than 2014 bowman.

Topps is doing just fine this year with their first autos of Buxton and Puig, both who were in products from other companies last year. Plus, Appel will be a dud, so no loss there.

I would agree, except for Prime Cuts and National Treasures. Both are great sets for people like me who enjoy buying nice veteran autos/patches.

I agree. If say Bryant has say 500 autos in Elite, 800 in Prizm, and then already has autos in USA Champions, either hos Bowman Chromes will go down a little because the market is already flooded, or the Panini ones will be useless. Either way value loses.

good news is
this almost forces topps to put APPEL and BRYANT in 2013 BDPP rather than 2014 bowman.

I disagree with this. Panini putting out less than desirable Prospect products doesn't have any effect on when Topps puts players in their product. Buxton and Correa were in EEE this year, and I would say their Chromes are doing pretty well.

The problem could be what I described above. Too many autos, no matter what set they are in could flood the market enough to see a noticeable drop across the board. Plus, I'm sure this product will have a less than desirable price tag.

I would agree, except for Prime Cuts and National Treasures. Both are great sets for people like me who enjoy buying nice veteran autos/patches.

National Treasures was pretty good. Prime Cuts is over-priced garbage just like the rest of it. Their products would be half decent if priced accordingly.

Prime example, Prizm and Topps Chrome are almost the same product, except Chrome has on card autos instead of stickers, and slightly more color. Chrome is preselling at 60 a box, while Prizm is at 80-85, with NO LOGOS. Makes no sense.

I still have to disagree on that. Both of them to me are high end cards with low end quality, due to the fact they don't have mlb logos. Then again I don't really trust any relic cards any company uses.

You really think putting mlb logo on these cards would make it that much better. The design is horrendous. A logo is not going to fix this train wreck.

This actually looks worse than a Leaf/Rize product.

Seriously, people buy this (and Rize). I don't understand their motivation. Most prospect products, and those who buy prospects are driving primarily, financially. I know I am - but I stick with my favorite team prospects, so there's some level of fun involved, in that I can watch and track these guys and root for their success, then see them when they're in the GCL or Clearwater or in Spring Training as I live close to the stadium.

But, ultimately, I would like to make money from my investments. It's got to be difficult to make money buying these products. Panini doesn't exactly have a history of people buying their product the way Topps or UD does.

Why do people buy this crap?!

BOOMER7

direct cost is around $75 box 4 autos per box.

in the past PANINI elite EE is approx same cost $75 with 6 to 10 autos per box

If Bryant and Appel aren't in draft this product might be ok for guys flipping cases for a short time as there will be interest with the player content.
I can see this product might actually stay above cost for Panini:eek:
Being released in October is a plus.

I know I wouldn't buy it at 75.

I'm surprised nobody has jumped on this line from the sell sheet yet.

Byron Buxton? nice...
Maikel Franco? sweet...
Mike Foltynewicz? Bahahahahahahahaha!!!!! Doesn't his 2010 Bowman Chrome Draft AUTO sell for $5? Why would we care about a 2013 unlicensed AUTO of his?

Great third guy to pick there to entice us Panini.

Agree.... but

WITH 4-5 AUTOS PER BOX AND WITH BRYANT and APPEL ABREU it's a tough call to buy or sit it out (buying cases).
i think it'll do well on the secondary market through the end of the year and early into 2014 as far as CASE prices are concerned. As i don't think much will be produced and the interest might be there on this since these guys won't be in much else (BDPP MAYBE)
We shall see if it has any steam as it releases in 2 weeks!

Been a strange year for BASEBALL especially for TOPPS
of all released product so far this year only 4 releases are still above factory cost of the 22 products released.

1. BOWMAN INCEPTION
2. TOPPS CHROME
3. MUSEUM
4. BOWMAN

I know they used the word Perennial because it starts with P like Prizm, but im not sure if they know what it means.

Then again, this is the same company that named a set "Initial Steps" and took pictures of rookies on stairs.

Horrid.
