I certainly don't want to burst your bubble (as the odds of this happening are one in a billion at this stage of the season), but the Pirates are not at .500 yet.
It is possible for them to finish the regular season 81-81 and be in a two game tie for the second wild-card seed in the NL. If that's a the case, they'd have a one game playoff (with Arizona or Washington it would seem) and losing that game makes them 81-82, as it counts towards the regular season.
I'm afraid officially ... you have one game to go. If anybody can do this, it's the Pirates :D

Well I mean you could have celebrated this yesterday, or hell a few weeks ago really, but if you're gonna choose to do so on the day when it becomes official, that day is likely tomorrow w/ Liriano on the mound.

I can see it all now, the 2013 World Series between the Pirates and Athletics.

I don't know, but I bet a Jaguars/Jets regular season game would get better ratings.

So awesome that every other match-up is terrible by comparison. I mean in a PIT-OAK game you can root for either team, they're both that lovable. Every other team in the playoff mix is horrible in some form or another and not worthy of any support. At least IMO.

I'd rather see Dodgers/Red Sox.

As long as it isn't St. Louis or Los Angeles out of the NL, I'm good.
Go Red Sox :)!

I hope Pirates don't go anywhere in the playoffs. Hate their TV color commentator. "CANNONBALL COMING!". So obnoxious.
But, yes, AL side I hope Tigers and Red Sox go nowhere. Can't stand them either. Cardinals and Oakland World Series please!

The networks would insist that both the A's and Pirates be contracted to ensure it won't happen again.

Billy Beane v. Clint Hurdle
Nobody would care about the actual players.

I actually really don't like Pirates. Moreso I don't like the bandwagon Pirates fans. And my issue with the bandwagon fans is most of them are Penguins fans, and as I die-hard Flyers fan it would hurt me to see them be happy.

Cannonball Coming and Raise the Jolly Roger are some of the most well themed phrases in baseball in my opinion.

As a baseball fan I'm happy to see that they will have a winning record for the first time in a long time, but as a Dodger fan I hope to beat them if we play them in the playoffs.

I think it's exciting to see the Pirates finally have some success...the diehards there deserve it. Barring an Indians comeback, I'll be rooting for Pittsburgh in the playoffs. Quite a few good guys in that organization.

My long-time fan ramblings.......
Congrats to the Pirates!!!
I will be flying home at the end of the month to visit my parents but unfortunately, they are on the road for their last 6 games.
Favorite moment: Attending game 4 of the 79 World Series with my Mom. The lost the game, but won the series.
Honorable Mention: Meeting Roberto Clemente and getting his autograph, a year before he died.
Steelers fans are everywhere, but it's rare to find a Pirates fan where I live now. I always have people ask me what the "P" stands for on my truck.
I'm glad this losing streak is over.
I put $100 on the Pirates to make the World Series, when I was in Vegas last March for the NASCAR race. It would be a nice payoff.

It will be a manageable drive between Pittsburgh and Detroit for the WS. Looking forward to it.
