View Full Version : Why eBay sucks!

Here's a sitaution I just ran into ... it makes me want to up and quit using eBay right on the spot:

I had a card up for BIN obo a few weeks ago, a buyer messaged me asking what's the best I can do. I had his offer of $140 and another offer of $150. I countered both him and the other guy at $180.

This guy then accepts my counter for $180. A short while after he messages me saying he didn't mean to, and it was an accident -- that he mean't to counter $170 (YEAH RIGHT! ).

I didn't have a chance to respond to his message for the next day, but in that time he went ahead and paid. He then even messages me and said "Just paid, thanks!" ... things seem positive at this point...

I packed up the card and shipped it out via USPS Priority Small Flat Rate box (charged him $3 for S&H, cost me $6 -- paid extra out of my pocket ... nbd but still...)

He received the item a few days later according to tracking.

All of a sudden today I see this feedback left for me:

"bad communication! asked about hobby kings? over priced ! CARD NOT MINT !"

So to clarify these points.

Bad communication? -- I have a 4.9 DSR in over 700 transactions in the past 12 months .... so, yeah.

Asked about hobby kings? -- Yes, I asked if he was on Blowout or Hobbykings. He has 77% feedback on eBay from 5 negatives he received months ago for selling ... I wanted some reassuring that he was legit ... (should have taken heed to that red flag!)

over priced ! -- Huh? He made the OFFER of $180 and I accepted? How is that statement even logical?!

CARD NOT MINT -- My listing says "NM or better unless described otherwise." This is a condition sensitive set, and the card was the BEST I've seen any. No chipping and it was likely MINT if graded!

So here's where things get good.

I left a positive feedback for him after he paid, so there's no retaliation for me there (I know no negs can be left, but even a "warning" within a positive...)

I call up eBay CS and explain the situation. The lady puts me on hold then comes back and states "Well, we can remove the comment because he references Hobby Kings, however, we can't remove the actual feedback"

Now I get PISSED. I ask her why? She says it's an opinion of the buyer, and therefore warranted.

My argument is simply that ALL of the "opinions" of the buyer are BS! They are based on buyers remorse! She states "They are likely due to buyer's remorse, but that is justifiable within the guidelines of feedback. We want to know the buyers opinions, even if they think they overpaid. If I buy a shirt from Walmart, I have the right to go to their message boards and leave a comment stating it's overpriced."

At this point, I wish this woman was in front of me so I can see how idiot she must look to go with how idiotic she sounds. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! How dare you make a comparison to a ridiculously incomparable situation! You're comparing my 5000+ feedback to your stupid opinion on a crappy shirt you'd buy at Walmart and leave a comment on a BS message-board that old ladies look at? I'm supposed to now take your opinion on MY situation seriously?

No matter what I said, how I explained it, or which angle I took ... she wasn't budging. I know it's only feedback, and I'm at 99.8% now ... but it's the matter of the situation. It's a sign that eBay has become so full of greed it's grown corrupt and blind to logic.

I told her ... FACTS outweigh OPINIONS. You have DSRs and two of them have the ability to default to 5 stars ... that equates to a FACT. On these DSRs, there is no ability for a buyer to voice their OPINION. Why is that? Why in this case does FACT outweigh opinion, but in my case opinion outweighs FACT?!...That's basically where we stalemated and she had no response. I knew I'm beating a dead horse while she's getting paid and I'm wasting my free time, so I ended it there.

I told her how furious I am with how they can value this one loser's opinion against 5000+ others, when this is CLEARLY a result of buyer's remorse!

eBay ... YOU ARE GARBAGE!!!

edit: I'll post the buyer's eBay ID once I hear back from him if he'll remove the neg or bump down to a neutral. Based on his ridiculousness thus far, I'm not betting on it...

Ebay hasn't had any customer service for years.

The funny thing is, that they'll probably soon suspend you for low ratings even though you obviously bring them a lot of money...

I don't want to even tell you the shotty experiences I've had with eBay customer service, but I do empathize with you.

This along with the fee structure on eBay is why I am beginning to transition to only COMC for my cards. Other miscellaneous items I will still use eBay. Eventually most card collectors will be on COMC anyways. This way I don't have to deal with buyer scams or crap customer service. I would think once more high end cards show up on their Vault service that it would increase the number of users. Couple that with the ability to buy/sell case/boxes along with other feature updates tailored towards Sports cards and memorabilia hobbyist, I think this makes for a smart transition.

THIS
"She says it's an opinion of the buyer, and therefore warranted"

The most B.S response given by Ebay. The same thing happen to me.

Long story short, sold a card to a buyer in FL, he ships the card to his buddy overseas in China (the real buyer), guy in china claims card was damaged, I say it was fine when it left me how can you be sure your buddy didn't do it.

He files a claim, ebay denies it, he leaves a negative.

The negative stays because it was his OPINION that it was damaged? WTF?

Only negative I have ever received in almost 10 years of ebay ;/

I had a similar situation. Guy bought a 2012 Finest auto of Ryan Broyles BIN for $15. (I think it was $15 but I know it was less than $20). I had it BIN/OBO and he did not even attempt to offer a lower price, which I likely would have accepted. As was my custom at the time, last December, I left positive feedback after he paid and I sent the card. Next thing I know, I'm getting an email from eBay/Paypal saying a case has been opened and this guy is accusing me of sending a card with a forged/fake autograph. WHO FAKES AN AUTOGRAPH OF RYAN BROYLES?! Stated he bought card for grandson who has a Broyles auto on a football and autographs did not match. Kid says its fake, so it must be fake. Exchange emails where he's contacting his lawyer, giving all communication from me to lawyer, in contact with Broyles' agent, etc etc. Ultimately case is dropped because conditions of refund were that he return card to me and he/grandson were no longer in possession. Basically he finally came to realize that I was in the right and he made a mistake. But the negative feedback he left without ever making an attempt to contact me about his beef remains. I guess I'm just too nice of a person for contacting the seller first whenever something arrives and doesn't seem quite right. Do right all we want and there will still always be some joker that will jack up our good ratings for no legitimately good reason. Me, I'm still a little salty that my good feedback was blemished over a $15 card purchased by an old man with 5 feedback ratings. Certainly learned more about the seller dashboard and how to try and protect oneself as much as possible with buyer restrictions!

No its not, thats the way of thinking that people resign themselves to that keeps them handcuffed by a certain option (eBay).

Many options out there: buy your own web domain and develop a website just for selling your cards (not expensive to do this) marketing this would be easy considering there are many sports card forums out there. Sell your items by other means i.e. forums, COMC, and other sports cards sites.

I had over 700+ positives in 10 months sold $10,000+ in past 2 or 3 months on and off mostly on ebay...... then I get suspended no cases no warning no clue why...... I call no1 can tell me...... only that I am done for life...... then I called again and next thing I know they say they will undo the suspension I told them no thank you at this point I just dnt care...... I'd rather not deal with that

I have had this happen to me. Ebay customer service reps are robots and read off a script. I sold this guy a $10 Tim Duncan PSA rookie that had a crack in the case. In the description I write. THERE IS A CRACK IN THE PSA CASE. Well long story short they get the card message me complaining about the cracked cased when I show in a picture and state in the description the case is cracked and wants a full refund plus shipping.

I told him to pound sand and he filed a claim, lost, then left negative feedback. Absolutely nothing I could do.

I will take the $180 and negative feedback on Ebay over the $150 you MIGHT get here and a positive iTrader.

This guy got the card he wanted at his price and was pissed you were checking up on him and got back at you the only way he could (other than returning the card)

don't forget it also said bent corners as well lol :flex:

he told me in msgs that was the primary reason he left neg feedback (even though he also claims he meant to leave neutral... smh), and he knows those corners are fine...

Im at a loss why you would do this. Essentially you're saying you would get paid $12-15 for a negative eBay feedback rather than have a positive iTrader.

$180 sale on eBay gets charged 10% on fees, maybe a bit less if you are some super seller. The Paypal fees are the same so that scratches out.

Ultimately $180-$18(or 10% of 180)= $162-$5 (Paypal fees) ===$157 and Negative

OR

$150-$5(Paypal fees) ===$145

Correct me if I misunderstood what you said, but your willing to receive a negative feedback for $12 more profit:confused::confused:
