Rapping about sports is just awful.... and this just backs it up! Not only that, but who walks up to bat with a song about themselves? A little high and mighty about himself maybe ;)

Not only that, but who walks up to bat with a sing about themselves?
Let's be honest though: how many pro baseball players even have songs written about them?

True, but you have to be pretty full of yourself to use a song about yourself to walk up to bat, and I think there is little doubt amongst everyone that Puig is just that.

I'm pretty sure Prince Fielder had a walk-up song about himself at some point when he was with the Brewers

How big of a douche is he compared to Johnny Manziel, though? I mean, he's only a kid, right?

I'm starting to feel like he's going to flame out. No basis in fact for that... just a feeling. One of those stories that ends badly eventually.

The song is trash as is the artist. I dont think it makes Puig a douche though. The kid probably wasn't even able to listen to music in Cuba let alone have someone other then his uncle write a song about him.

How old does Puig have to be to be called a douche without hearing the responses
A) He's only a kid, though.
B) He's new to America.
I don't care how long he's been in America. If I just arrived in Cuba and was a star baseball player, I wouldn't be acting like I'm the best person in the country.

You get to choose your walk up song? I thought some guy in a booth at the stadium does that.

Love him or hate him, he is good for the game.
He comes from a society that oppressed free speech and freedom of choice, he comes here where he can do whatever he wants, and has the money to do it.
Enjoy the ride, hope it goes well, and bash him if and when he falls.

i do not like him. he raises his hands and jogs to first when he gets an rbi single, if i was a pitcher id put the next one right in the middle of his back

I'm surprised a pitcher hasn't done this yet, or maybe he hasn't faced the right pitcher who would do that yet. Remember when Cole Hamels hit Bryce Harper because he's Bryce Harper? Puig has done so much more than Harper to "deserves" to get beaned if anyone actually deserves it I would say.

Do you have a problem with pitcher's getting pumped up and yelling after a big out and other antics? Or giving praise to the All-Mighty above, as if there is some kind of intervention involving a baseball game? If a pitcher does not like the result of a batted ball or the reaction that a hitter has maybe the pitcher should try to get the batter out. You may think that being a show boat is dumb but throwing at a player is dumb and could cost someone their career.

Puig's track is weak sauce but it is all in fun. Jeter should use that Roots track, as it speaks the truth. :)!

What has he done that says hes the best person in the country?
You guys need to get past the lame reasoning to hate. I dont care how long it takes him to round the bases, how high he flips his bat or how many times he grabs his crotch and spits a seed towards you in the 2nd inning.
I dont care one way or the other, I just think some of the reasoning in this thread is childish. I do think he will flame out and be a mid tier player. But I do enjoy the all out effort.

This is a country that just loves to tear people down. Sad, but you see it everywhere. That people are so eager to tear down Harper and Puig, two of the most exciting and interesting youngsters in the sport is a sad commentary indeed.
What fascinates me is that by discouraging, belittling, and bashing the crazy, outlandish play and approach of players like this, you're actually encouraging silence, mediocrity and boredom. That sounds like a bland, uninteresting future for a sport to me. Puig's one of the best things to happen to baseball in a long time.

I think that because he is so unpredictable and not following the unspoken rules of baseball that pitchers are not sure it's safe to throw at him. They might actually have to man up and deal leith the consequences when he charges the mound. He's a beast and if he makes it as far as the mound there is going to be hell to pay. I'm tired of pitchers feeling like they have the right to bean someone and not face any consequences. Yes Puig is brash, so was Reggie and a thousand other players before him.

If you've ever seen a pitcher miss his spot aiming for the strike zone, why isn't it possible he'd miss his spot aiming for the guy's back and hit him in the head?

Hmm, I see all these people calling Puig a douche and I can't help but wonder whether it's because everyone's genuinely forgotten that he's still in his 20's and almost every other person in his age group is just as arrogant as he is (or at least how arrogant the media says he is) or because he's from a communist country...
That said, I personally think he should've gone with a song by Puig Destroyer.

I doubt someone just picked it for him and he has no idea what's going on. Plus part of it is in spanish so he will understand that part of the song.

This is the first thing that came to my mind when I heard it. He probably said "Hey, that's a sweet beat - and there's my name!" and gave it the OK. The production is awful, though, and the rhyme is awful. Does meter or rhyme mean nothing to that person?
As one commentator said, no one's listening to the words anyways.

i think there's a lot of jealousy here. i'd bet many of you wouldn't be hating if he was on your team.
just relax a little and read this story about what he had to go through to get here.
Y! SPORTS (http://sports.yahoo.com/news/coast-guard-crew-reflects-on-time-with-yasiel-puig-during-attempt-to-defect-to-u-s--141306377.html)
if you risked your life numerous times to escape a communist country and experienced the amount of success right out of the gate, wouldn't you be a little excited and show it? the guy LOVES the game. you can tell by the way he plays all-out with no regard for bodily injury - running into outfield walls, gunning down runners, and trying to stretch out doubles and triples even if it isn't advisable.
his baseball etiquette may not be up to our standards but remember where he came from. i've never been there but i assume that cuba is a lot different from America (we are truly blessed/lucky). so don't knock a guy who literally changed his fortune and his life through hard work and persistence when he celebrates a little success on the field. you'd be doing it too at his age and level of inexperience. he'll grow up and mature as most players do. whether or not he maintains this level of play is another story. until then, i'm going to enjoy the ride.
viva puig!
