Ok, so there are some bad misses and slow cuts to the basket, but on the whole this is simply fascinating viewing. I enjoyed every second of it.
Part 1: 1984 Old Timers Game (almost full) 1/4 - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXXv7xFR7vk)
Some great matchups...
East (blue) coached Red Auerbach
Nate Thurmond
Wes Unseld
Zelmo Beaty
Dave DeBusschere
Tom Heinsohn
John Havlicek
Sam Jones
Bill Sharman
Pete Maravich
Oscar Robertson
Dick McGuire
West (white) coached by Alex Hannum
Bob Pettit
Connie Hawkins
Jonny 'Red' Kerr
Dolph Schayes
Elgin Baylor (DNP)
Rick Barry
Jerry West
Hal Greer
Lou Hudson
Earl Monroe
Dave Bing
Also, great to see Norm Drucker and Sid Borgia refereeing the game. A couple of legends right there.
Highlights:
- Connie Hawkins skying towards the basket (wish there was more footage of him in his prime)
- Oscar Robertson and Bob Pettit working the two-man game
- Pistol Pete getting hot early in the second half
- Earl Monroe's modern moves juxtaposed against old-school dribbling, hook shots and set shots from the likes of McGuire, Schayes, Sharman and Heinsohn
- Great shooting from Hal Greer, Sam Jones and Jerry West
- Nate Thurmond dominating the boards
- Rick Barry looking like he should still be playing in the NBA
