View Full Version : So what was the story with PSA and Collectors' Edge in 2000?

Now remember, i got out of collecting in 1999 and didn't get back until 2011.

So I was looking through the population reports on the PSA site and noticed that the total number of graded football cards jumps up to 160,000 in 1998, then 190,000 in 1999, and then 480,000 in 2000 (!!!) before dropping down to 68,000 in 2001. I clicked on 2000 and saw that just about all the cards were Collectors' Edge, even though there really aren't any huge chase cards in the sets.

So what happened? Did Collectors' Edge run some kind of special or have graded cards in packs? The numbers are insane.

Yeah, they released products that had a graded card in every pack. WORTHLESS.

Ouch, that must have been a mind-numbing time to work at PSA....

There were a lot of gimmicky boxes in the early 00s, graded card packs were one of them. Collector's Edge Graded, 2000 Donruss Preferred, Fleer Authority and UD Graded all had packs with graded cards in them.
