View Full Version : Will Durant ever go to a big market?

I love OKC and the fanbase there. The atmosphere in the arena is extraordinary. The team will be a serious contender for years to come with the current roster. But can they really make it to the top. can they beat a team like Miami in a 7 Game series. As of right now, I doubt it.
Small market teams have lots of financal limits. OKC has had very quiet off-seasons the past years. Presti is a genious when it comes to Draft picks. KD will be locked up in OKC the next 2 years and he loves it there, the community, the support and everything.
But I have the feeling that, if no more puzzle pieces will be added, he might leave to Brooklyn, the capitol of Jay-Z and Roc Nation Sports.
Surely this would boost his cards even more, especially Rookie year.

Opinions?

Playing for a different team will decrease the value of his cards.

He's the 2nd best player in the league. All OKC needs is a quality PG like Westbrook and they will be title contenders for a long time.

stern will obviously be long gone, but if you believe in nba conspiracies (i half do) you have to think silver could make a stern-like play to keep this guy in okc.

yeah, you need superstars in huge markets. you also need at least a couple of big guys on small market teams to help sell the illusion of parity and fairness. maybe durant is the guy that goes against the grain.

if he goes to a big city though, could we rule out the wizards? beal and wall should be solid by then, and he is a DC guy.

Didn't they already have him?

I'd love to see KD staying in OKC. The question is, will he stay if no ring comes in the next years? He turns 25 this year and will enter his Prime soon.
OKC definitely has to add anything. A Josh Smith type of player.
The biggest pressure will be on JLamb's shoulders. No Harden, no Kmart. He has to produce lots of good things for the team. Hopefully he'll be ready.
And, the biggest problem, Brooks need to be more flexible with the rotation. Giving Perk so many minutes against Miami was a huge failure. I think they will do something before the trade deadline.
Besides all this, I'm freaking excited about the new season and can't wait!!!:)!:D

I think he meant "keep/kept" because who knows if OKC Thunder will have enough payroll to offer them both a max contract again

Well Brooklyn will be financially screwed in three or four years.

Yeah, eventually.
He won't win anything in OKC. But Westbrook will leave before Durant.

Will he? I hope not
Would it surprise me? of course not

There isn't a player alive that I'd say for sure wouldn't jump ship for another team (yes I realize Kobe will retire a Laker and Duncan will retire a Spur - both flirted with other teams at one point either via trade for Kobe or as a FA with Duncan)

I'm sure Durant loves OKC - doesn't mean he won't bail.

It's the same thing I hear daily as a Cavs ticket holder - will Kyrie leave?

Kyrie can say he likes the City, likes the fans, likes ownership, likes the young core they've built etc...

If he left it wouldn't shock me any more then if he stayed.

Same with Durant, Rose, Westbrook or anyone else.

But Westbrook will leave before Durant.

And there comes CP3. Paul and Durant would be one of the best combos ever!

i think they will be in the finals, and if wade's game continues to deteriorate this year, i think they can win it all...

enjoy the ride..

Hopefully he doesn't take his talent to south beach.... Oh wait that was done already.

He stays.

i hope he never leaves okc. part of what is cool about kd is that he stayed with okc in a small market when he could have basically gone anywhere. not many like kd in the game any longer. he has old school values. long live durantula!

Very good point, but Miami is a small market team (even though the media makes it seem different). They do not seem to be strapped financially. OKC reached a perfect storm with Durant. That type of talent doesn't come around to often. Jay Z had to sell his small stake in the Nets (sold it to Jason Kidd) because he wanted in on the agent side of things.

I personally think that the small market noise has been over hyped. You never heard of those type of conversations until the media hyped up Lebron leaving Cleveland. It all comes down to the owner in terms of the financial situation.

OKC messed up by not finding a way to keep their three best players. I think they will have to strike lighting again in the draft in order to have a team that can win a championship. I do like the fact that they are relevant.

You'll see. Durant is not Lebron. 2 entirely different personalities it appears. A possibility, absolutely, I just don't see it taking place.

If LeBron continues to be as dominant as the past few years, then OKC and the other 28 NBA teams will have to sit and watch Miami win again and again.

What I'm about to stay may sound very bold, but as long as Bron is in the league tearing it up ... Durant, Rose, CP3, Melo and everyone else can move from team to team but I don't think it will change much. This is the Heats Dynasty.

This pic was taken this past week in LA where the 3 of them workout together. Awesome to see!

Big as in big money wasted? Then yes, the Knicks..... Smh

Heck, they'll probably even take Jimmer and pay him $120,000.00 for two years.

I think he stays.
I think Westbrook leaves eventually to be a #1 option somewhere.
I always get the feeling he doesn't want to be in KD's shadow or sidekick.

OKC really missed Harden had they kept him I think they would up there with the Heat if not the better team. Gave the Heat a run for their money in the Finals.
