View Full Version : Looking for some set ideas

I'm looking to undertake a new project, and I thought I'd get some input on what I should chase.
Here's the criteria:
1) Has to be an on-card auto set.
2) Can have just the auto, or be an auto/jersey, auto/patch.
3) Should have at least 20 cards in the set.
4) Numbering is fine, but nothing impossible like too many /5 or similar super-low numbering.
5) Looking for HOF/retired stars and/or veterans.
If anyone has an idea, let me know. I'm still working on a couple of others, but having trouble finding much so I need something to keep me involved.

Chronology Signature Decades:

These are nice but some may get a bit expensive (Wilt in particular):

Some great patches in these (again, the Jordans/Lebrons will be expensive, especially for the low-numbered parallels):

How much time and what's your budget around for this?

I'd say I'm pretty open on both counts. I've been working on that 1997 UD Legends football set for at least three years, so I've spent a fair bit of time and cash already on that one. I'd prefer to keep spending under $5,000, although I'd go above that for the right set especially if I'm doing it over time.

I have a few cards from each of those Chronology subsets, I love anything from that product. That Decades set is definitely a consideration. Not sure about the auto/patch set - I don't go for patches as much as autos, but there are some amazing cards in that set.
The Inkredibles are nice across every sport. I'll look at the checklist.

Not a bad set, but I'm pretty traditional on the standard card shape.

Some of the new Intrigue sets are really nice looking!
There is "Slam Ink" - "Winning Ink" and "Immortalized" that are all nice On Card auto designs!

I agree. I completed this set a while back so no problem with you doing this set here :)!
In my opinion it's a gorgeous set, the only catch is a lot of guys are going after the set so some cards can go for crazy amounts. The only true sp in the set in the Melo /10 that I luckily found , but there are many /25 that are tough to find. It's a 54 card set and in my opinion it's a great set to collect:D

This set only has 18 cards, but is pretty tough to put together and is something different with the ABA unis - 10-11 National Treasures ABA Legends (there is also a 10 card set from 12-13 National treasures with a few different autos)

Have you checked out the Red, White, and Blue set from Intrigue yet? It's a neat looking set to me, thinking about going after it myself. I believe they're all on card autos. I haven't looked at the checklist, but some of the names I've seen pop up on eBay look Intriguing! Seeing that we had similar taste in other sets we go after (and the same name), figured I would throw it out there.

Absolutely love this set too. Unique set idea and great looking cards. Need to at least add the Dr. J to my PC at dome point.

I'd take a look at the Immortalized Autos set from Intrigue. 60 cards in the set with plenty of cards that you can get for relatively cheap and a few cards bigger cards.

That's a gorgeous set, and one that I've considered. I've been watching your posts to see the progress of your chase.

I spent time last night checking out several of the Intrigue sets, both the look of them and the print runs. I think the Red, White and Blue is a great set, as is the Immortalized and Winning Ink. I'm going to try deciding soon on one of those to chase. Better do it quickly, though, because I'm sure some of the cards /15 or similar low runs will dry up soon.
We definitely have some similar taste in sets!
I'd take a look at the Immortalized Autos set from Intrigue. 60 cards in the set with plenty of cards that you can get for relatively cheap and a few cards bigger cards.
Yes, that one is definitely being considered.
