alright so im selling a item i no longer use:

M Audio Oxygen 49 Key USB MIDI Controller 3rd Gen V3 Save Some $$$$ | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/171136442022?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649)

anyway so its all packed and ready to go. its weighs 11 lbs. dimensions are 34x15x15.

ive checked every shipping option available (usps, ups and fedex) and the cheapest was usps at 37 bucks to florida, to california all 3 are going to be over 45 bucks, but whatever i dont care.

so i put the shipping as 42.86 after calculating the 7 bucks i paid for materials to pack, the box, tape, etc.

ive gotten 3 messages within a day of the listing asking me why im charging so much for shipping, so when i checked the other auctions for the same item i see people charge roughly 20 bucks for shipping... my question is how the hell can they do that? ive been checking everywhere, even went into the post office to ask them how much shipping would be with exact weight and dimensions of the package

ANYWAY, what do you guys suggest?

i already had it craigslist for a month with no takers, no i got a few people interested in it, so quite frankly if i could net $40 bucks on this id be happy but with these huge shipping costs i dont know if thats even possible.

looked through the completed sales too, people charging around 15 bucks shipping on a few of them, how the hell is that even possible? do sellers join some special program for shipping that im unaware of?

I got $35 on the USPS site based on the information given or $7 going media mail (not sure if it falls under that category though) I did from east coast area to west coast.

People sometimes roll the cost of the shipping into the selling price or they eat the difference or they may have discounts w/ups or fedex

UPS ground shows $21.44, doesn't ask for size just weight of package

Fed ex shows under $20, but changes to $60 once size is added.

This one sold 2 days ago and has $50+ for shipping

Also the others listed are nearly all over $100 and many have free shipping and just looking at others they appear to be rolling the shipping in. IE the one that sold for $70 had free shipping. So basically $35 for the keyboard and $35 to mail.

Hello ExAreSee. No offense. Are you a new seller/buyer in eBay? As buyer, it looks like you never paid for a big item with cheap S&H and wait weeks for it. :D

Why somebody can only ask $20 to ship for a 11lb item? Maybe is going to use the USPS Parcel Post now called the USPS Standard Post (in the office) or USPS Parcel Select (online version found in eBay and other services). If you are sure that the item (already package) weights 11lb. As far I know you can print a postage label in eBay.

I got $35 on the USPS site based on the information given or $7 going media mail (not sure if it falls under that category though)...

Beware the Media Mail isn't for electronics. Also the USPS in 2013 updated/added some restrictions for items that can't ship anymore with this service even with it can be consider "media" stuff. If you believe you can fool them beware. As far I know the employees have the right to check/open a box or pack without permission in this service. So if they found an item not in the list. Sender can get in trouble and receiver can end paying for the actual service.
