thought this would be an interesting topic. I'd wager we'll get a variety of answers. just answer the question "why do you stack?" investment? protection against inflation? collecting? something else? and what other types of things (if any) do you buy for the same reasons?

It's just a cool savings account for me. Just something better to look at than a bank statement.

I'm kind of in the same boat, lol. I'm terrible at saving money. I just find it useless...perhaps I am subconsciously aware of the fact that fiat is just not a good thing to have in large quantities. So to me its a way to spend my fiat but still have assets.

- It turns my spendable cash in to a less liquid format (and it stills has a chance to appreciate)
- It's a usable form of currency "just in case" something happens to the country
- Collecting (to a small degree - some of the coins/bars look very cool)

other things I "stack" for similar reasons
- Ammunition

I stack because I thought it was a safety net incase things went sour. But after a lot of thought I figured it was pretty far fetched and paranoid so now I stack for fun, collecting and just incase I'm wrong lol My stacking has slowed waaayyyy down as most of my funds now go into paying off my house.

When the price goes up (which it will), I sell to make a profit.

Its a great way for me to stash money and not buy stupid things. Whether its only $100 a month or $1000. Whatever I can afford at that given time. Of course the market could always crash and it have very minimal value but even then its still worth more than DVD's and clothes, etc.
