Trying to decide if I should pick up their chrome autos or not. So, what do you think, who of any of Gerrit Cole, Matt Moore, or Jered Weaver are elite pitchers on a possible Hall of Fame path?

Really? Cole and Moore are 1 or two years into their career. There is no way anyone would know

My best bet would be neither. It's a gamble...
My best pick would be Cole if you can afford his Chrome autos.

None are Hall of Famers as of right now. It's wayyyyyyyyyyyy to early to be asking that

Going to need a few more years to determine that. Just look at Tim Lincecum.
Sure thing for the HOF, right?
Wrong.

Let me say it this way, I already have the following pitchers' chrome autos because I consider that they have (or had) the best stuff:
2004 Bowman Chrome Auto FELIX HERNANDEZ BGS 9/9
2005 Topps Chrome Refractor Auto JUSTIN VERLANDER BGS 9/10
2006 Bowman Chrome Refractor Auto CLAYTON KERSHAW BGS 9/10
2007 Bowman Chrome Refractor Auto TIM LINCECUM BGS 9/10
2008 Bowman Chrome Auto DAVID PRICE BGS 9/10
2010 Bowman Chrome Refractor Auto MATT HARVEY BGS 9/10
2010 Bowman Chrome Refractor Auto STEPHEN STRASBURG BGS 9/9
2011 Bowman Chrome Auto JOSE FERNANDEZ BGS 9/10
2012 Bowman Chrome Rookie Auto YU DARVISH BGS 9/10
2012 Bowman Chrome Refractor Auto MICHAEL WACHA 9/10
I'm trying to decide if I should look to add to my collection:
2005 Bowman Chrome Refractor Auto JERED WEAVER BGS 9/10
2011 Bowman Chrome Auto MATT MOORE BGS 9/10
2012 Bowman Chrome Auto GERRIT COLE BGS 9/10
So forget the HOF question, are Weaver, Moore, Cole at the same level as those other pitchers that I already have in my collection? I can always wait until next year to see how they look before deciding to add them or not, but if any of these guys are considered at the same level of pitcher or better than I'll just go ahead and get them now. Just want to get some thoughts and opinions. Thanks.

Cole is probably going to be a first ballot, I'm looking into my crystal ball now and it says, that he'll have an outstanding career.
325 wins, 3277 K'S and a career ERA of 3.03

Its make or break year for Matt Moore coming up, He was on Cy Young Pace last year before he got hurt, right their with Max. I say thats pretty impressive for his second year but even the homer in me says its way to early to predict a Hof. I really believe he has the best chance out of the three for sure. He is just lacking a little control which keeps him out of the 8-9 innings.

We've see too many "second coming of Jesus" players who all became "has beens that never was" - - I think a player needs at least 10 years of consistent play (or after a player has retired) to start engaging in Hall of Fame conversations.
In the 1st 5 years of a career, the question is more like "Do you think _____ can win an MVP, Cy Young, or voted to the All Star Game" and that's the extent of how far a conversation putting 'em on a lofty pedestal should go.

Moore and Cole have the upside to get there, but there are entirely too many variables to even consider this question this early in their careers

I can't stand how rude and arrogant people on these boards are. Instead of giving an honest opinion answer its always bs responses. Who cares about brien Taylor? He busted dis he even pitch in the bigs?
To answer your question op. I believe weaver has the best chance based on he has been solid in his 7 years or so. I don't think he will make the hof though. Matt Moore is an electric young pitcher but I don't trust he can avoid set backs. Until he shows 2 straight years of ace stuff I would take him as a great pitcher just not hof. Cole should a workhorse but I don't think he has hofer potential personally.
I still like Moore the best but I'm a Tampa fan and still think kazmir can be an all star. Weaver has had the best career of the 3 through their respective ages I think.
Yes, all three first ballot if they retired today.

Jered Weaver has 113 wins, 3 top-5 Cy Young votes, 3-time All Star and 1200+ strikeouts...so he's obviously the closest of the bunch. But at this rate, he's not getting in the HOF.
At this point, there is small chance that Cole or Moore have the career trajectory that Weaver has had...but greater the likelihood that neither reach Weaver's star but not HOF level.

I care about Brien Taylor... thats who! And arrogant responses? Sadly the people being "arrogant" I would go to say have a more honest opinion than you. It is too young in any of their careers to tell. So instead we tell him this and have a little fun at the same time. Sorry you took so much offense

To be fair, a lot of us can't stand how uptight and serious some of you are as well. It cuts both ways. Lighten up. By the way, I am reporting you for insulting Mr. Taylor. He is going through a tough time in his life right now and the last thing he needs is some keyboard jockey posting to the world that no one cares about him. If he hurts himself I will hold you responsible.

original question = no, none of them.
because pitcher careers aren't long enough any more, due to injuries from throwing so hard all the time, to match the other HOFer stats, and that's how everyone votes for the HOF. it will become more difficult for pitchers to make it. there are only 2 active pitchers throwing in the League next year that I think you could discuss this possibility.

Agree 100% with everything except the bolded part. Eventually the criteria will adjust to the current game and current generation pitchers will start getting in. As for the three here? Weaver has had a good start but is already slowing down. I don't think his base was/is strong enough to weather the loss of velocity and increase in injuries. Moore and Cole is just silly. Nowhere near enough of a sample size to tell one way or the other.

Who are the "only 2 active pitchers" you're referring to, just curious.
I can see relatively rational discussions regarding the HOF potential for guys like Verlander, Halladay, Sabathia, Felix, Kershaw, and even a guy like Wainwright has some potential.

I was thinking Verlander and Kershaw. JV for the seeming durability so far, with the #s; Kershaw for the incredible #s so far. Wainwright is a great sleeper pick, Felix too. Felix is already on a track to be a Veterans pick perhaps, but his career is young, he could end up somewhere flashier.
Sabathia and Halladay are both around 200 wins but had a tougher 2013, RH also not so hot in 2012. They would have an uphill climb I think. Not sure Halladay will make 250 wins. Great pitchers, great careers. HOF careers? It can be discussed but I think doubtful. Each could come back strong in 2014 though.

Weaver needs about 7 all-star level seasons to get there. Not sure he has that left in his arm. His older brother fell off right around his age.

I'm not familiar with the Weaver set, but where is the auto? Or did PSA just make a mistake?

PSA made a mistake. That red x-fractor is a non-auto and numbered /65. Doesn't matter to me as that card will eventually be cracked out and sent to BGS.

I didn't read the entire thread but in my opinion, all three are early enough in their career to be able to pick up decent autos for relatively low prices. If you think you are going to be able to hold onto them for about 15 - 20 years in order to see if they get in the HOF then go ahead and get them, but as far as I can tell, that usually doesn't happen. You should focus on some sort of category (team, player, position, home, etc...) and build your collection that way.

Thanks for your comments. If you look a few posts up (post #32), I added these 3 pitchers graded #d chrome refractor autos or red x-fractor rookie/prospect cards to my collection. I already have a collection of BVG/BGS graded RCs (or early year cards) of HOF and star/future potential HOF players in baseball, basketball, and football. So these cards fit right into my collection.
