View Full Version : What is Panini doing right...

There are a lot of threads with complaints about Panini. It can't be all bad right? Being Thanksgiving...maybe we can try a positive thread (let's not get this thread deleted lol).
For me, the main thing I liked most about the latest releases: Flawless/Immaculate was the inclusion of autos and patches of the less popular HOFers (Greer, English, Dantley,Parish, etc) and veterans/legends (Iverson,Danny Manning, Grant Hill, Mark Price, Mitch Richmond, etc). Hopefully, they will continue this next year with other HOFers/legends! :)!
With that.....hope everyone has a great :turkey: day!!!

Panini's quality control is great and I've had nothing but good redemption experiences.
Flawless and immaculate were just down right sick and 2012/2013 prizm and select were great. But they gotta loose the sticker autos!

I really like most of the designs in Immaculate and Flawless, it seems like they're going in the right direction. Introduction of foil around the patch windows was a great thing. And customer service has always treated me right.

They're putting in some super duper mojos patches in their stuff.

Immaculate and Flawless were a step in the right direction. They're also starting to cut back on the sticker autos I think.

immaculate and flawless certainly is top notch = big like
im not sure though if we'll be paying this much attention to it if there are licensed competition e.g. exquisite
they got shaq to sign on card again! (revived my interest in the hobby)
I love how most of their patches match the picture on the card (I was so sick of shaq cards in heat uni with lakers patch when I he was my PC guy years ago).
sticker auto are a big downer, but Panini's placement of it is a lot better in recent years than what topps or UD used to do in the past.

Pistol Pete patches! Flawless and Immaculate are beautiful additions to their lineup. They just need a smaller lineup. lol

Oh, I forgot that I am thankful for the "Event Worn" patch and jersey cards they are pumping out. Very generous of them to put these in products across the financial spectrum.

I like that the prices are increasing, I dream of having to pay 10,000 dollars for a pack of 3 cards some day.

Well, since they aren't making any new Marbury cards, they suck!
But as some have said, some of their newer stuff is looking more and more better.

they're keeping whoever makes all those stickers in business. so that's good for someone i guess.
they're also proving that you can cheat your customers (see, unfilled redemptions) while still getting fanboys to spend $2500 on a pack of cards. so that's something.

Even though base cards are usually an after thought, the base cards in Totally Certified are pretty amazing. That would be a set that would look beautiful in a nine-page binder or something. The silver foil really pops this year.

Agreed....designs have improved greatly from the silver foil crap.

You make several valid points....let's take them one at a time.
A. They do still have several sticker autos out there, BUT they have done a much better job of on card autos than the past several years. We as collectors....and I say WE....get upset when they put sticker autos in a product, and then we get upset when they delay a product because they are waiting for athletes to mail the autographed cards back to them. So we can't have it both ways. There is no good answer!
B. "cheating" people on unfilled redemptions??? Panini has the best redemption department in the business. That's not just my words but the view of the masses Panini America Best in Industry at Handling Redemptions According to Beckett Survey | The Official Panini America Blog (http://paniniamerica.wordpress.com/2013/10/17/panini-america-best-in-industry-at-handling-redemptions-according-to-beckett-survey/) . All companies have redemptions, they are inevitable. Panini will fulfill a redemption that has expired. Most other companies don't do that.
C. I don't know where you are getting this $2500 a pack price. When The product first released it was just over $1000 a pack. There were 10 hits. Whatever the product, from whatever company, you can pretty much count on a "high-end" product costing you $100 per hit. Now if the product starts drying up and the prices go up, you can't blame that on the original price. It's like a box of 1996-97 Topps Chrome basketball. It was a retail only product that would cost you about $50-$60, now costs you $800 or so.
on second thought........you make no valid points!!!

I like the fact they put a lot of stuff out saturating the market a little bit. It may be bad for those trying to profit, but for those trying to collect it's great to have access to a greater variety of cards.

great designs with on-card autographs recently, those will be collected for years to come like Exquisite... depending on the player though... this double rookie class put too many cards on the market though

They'd be doing a better job if they stop pumping so much stuff out. Sure, makes it better for rippers, but they hurt the hobby from a standpoint that puling a Kobe auto really isn't that big of a deal anymore because they made him sign so damn much. In my opinion they also way, way over do it with parallels.
They finally came out with a pretty nice designed set though with Immaculate, reminds me of ultimate collection some years back.

Why complain about the cost of some releases of cards? Who cares if a future release costs $10,000, some people can afford it and will pay it, and people who can't, won't.
Should Bugatti etc stop making million dollar sports cars just because most people can't afford them? Of course not.
People will pay what they can afford.

Gotta admit, Immaculate has been as close to the exquisite experience as any other product since 2009-10. Just missing MJ and LJ autos....

With Bitcoin pushing 1000.00+, I see no reason we can't start making 10,000.00 Packs and possibly high roller 25,000.00 NBA Lottery Packs.
Some of the investment kids these days are going to need a place to blow 20-50 million for funsies.

I think Immaculate was awesome. I'm glad to see the Logomen, Letters and jumbo patches.
The ONLY negative is having sticker autos. It's only fair to compare this to original Exquisite and I think the only way for anyone to view them on that level is to eliminate stickers. Other than that they have a shot of it being viewed as their premium item.
