I sold a couple of cards to a buyer in early November. I did not receive payment and had to open a unpaid item case. I figured I would just receive a refund for my fees since I've never received a full payment before. Well long story short the buyer paid for both of the cards 40 days later but I only have one of the two cards he bought. Can I just refund him the money thru Paypal with no issue? Or do I need to go thru Ebay? I contacted the seller telling him I no longer have one of the two cards. He is yet to respond.

Refund all of his money with a note that since he did not pay in the allotted time as required by ebay you opened a NPB case and after 5 days received a fee refund. You then re-listed the cards and have since sold them. And leave it at that. No further explanation is needed. Just be sure to refund his entire payment.

Ebay will remove any bad feedback that he may leave you since the NPB case was closed in your favor.

You're not telling the whole truth. You never opened a case if he paid, it would tell him he is no longer able to purchase this item, unless you never closed it in that 40 days.

Well he emailed me back and said he would like a full refund on both of the cards. I have no problem giving him a refund but do I need to do it thru ebay or just thru Paypal. I could care less about my ebay because I will no longer be using it to sell due to these kind of issues. But I don't want to have to refund him twice if I don't do it the right way.

It took 30 days to open the case because that is what my settings were set to.

Do it thru Paypal. Paypal is owned by ebay and the refund will be on record by ebay.

That was your mistake. Five days is plenty of time to pay.

Yea I've since changed my settings to 7 days but I think my days of selling on ebay are done.

Yep! If a buyer doesn't pay me, I open an unpaid case as soon as I possibly can. 4-5 days or whatever it is.

Wow, you can wait 30 days to get paid? Whom would do that in their right mind? Oh, that guy...

sounds like you never closed the unpaid item case...if you had, he couldn't have paid

Yea Deadbeat are everywhere

This guy:
primetime91619 on eBay (http://www.ebay.com/usr/primetime91619)

Won this card:
Deion Sanders Triple Game Used 2006 National Treasures Dallas Cowboys 84 99 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/261349798800?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1559.l2649)

I don't know if it is someone here getting revenge because I trolled them or maybe it is PRIME TIME himself being too busy to pay for the card.

I learned a little while ago to put it right in your item description. I actually give seven days and if I haven't received payment on the 6th I send a quick message reminding them of my policy and refer to the item description. Most often then not...pay right away, sometimes get a message with some excuse at which point I will extend 48 hours, no response back I file a case the next day. It's all about setting up your own guidelines (within ebays) even if eBay has them already set in place. It's amazing what some buyers will pull

Ive had a few issues selling, dont remember if it is possible for him to pay once case is closed, but Did you "close" the case before he paid? or was it still open. Just refund him in full, ebay can see that and your covered. After a week at most, if unpaid and no reply to me, i open case, wait the required days, close and relist. When the case is closed you get refunded your fees. Ebay can see everything so what i do, if not instant paid. i send invoice, if nothing, then send a message, if no reply, open case.

I couldn't fight it until after 30 days because of my default settings. I normally just send a invioce if they haven't paid in a few days. I reset my settings to open a claim after 7 days but Im so fed up with non paying bidders Im just going to stop selling on ebay. I refunded him the full amount he paid and I'm hoping the whole thing will just go away so I don't have to think about it anymore. I'll stick to selling here.

Don't give up on ebay. I have sold over 30,000 items over the years and have probably had less than 20 buyers not pay.

So let me get this right. You're giving up on eBay because of YOUR mistake? Why would ANYONE use a default of 30 days to allow someone to pay for something, especially in a hugely volatile category as sports memorabilia? You give someone 4 weeks to pay for something and anything can happen. You could have a 1/1 RGIII auto sell for $350 and then 2 weeks later he could tear his ACL/MCL and be done. Why would the person pay you after that happens?

You need to keep on your customers when using eBay. I give them the minimum amount of time to pay, 3 days. On the third day, I open a NPB case. 3 days later I close the case. If you don't have the money to pay or don't intend to pay, then don't bid.
