View Full Version : Are my prices too high or is it that nobody wants this stuff anymore?

I currently have 2 threads going and have had limited interest. Are my prices too high, noone is interested in this stuff anymore due to mass production, people don't want bulk with duplicates etc? I have been collecting for 37 years of my life and remember when the Marino, Emmitt, Jerry Rice, Montana, and Barry Sanders stuff were in $1.00 boxes and there were people swarmed around to get their hands on the stuff at those prices. I can't get .10 anymore?
To be 100% honest, I can get more for the top loaders than I can get for the cards. I have a customer that needs over 4000 top loaders and would give me .035 for each top loader, but I don't want to take my 10,000++ cards out of top loaders to have them getting damaged etc.

I am also trying to sell rookies of better known players of the 90's in bulk for .10-.25/card.

WHAT PRICES WOULD PEOPLE BE INTERESTED IN THIS STUFF as I am just trying to clear out the stuff for my Jim Thorpe, Red Grange and Bronko Nagurski collections.

Jerry Rice, Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, Joe Montana, and Dan Marino base .10/card

In an effort to thin out the collection, I am selling the above players base cards for .10/card + s/h. Some of these players I have 2000-3000 cards available (NO LISTS). There will be duplicates in the lots (no more than 5-10 of the same card you choose). If you don't mind tons of duplicates, cool some cards I have over 100 of the same card. To make it worth the effort, please no orders for less than 100 cards.

100 cards would be 10.00 + 5.00 shipping etc.

Let me know if I can help.

Thank you

Shipping as we all know is not cheap so it will vary depending on how many cards you can use.

I am looking to sell in bulk. If you need a list, that is fine, but I want to sell each player's entire lot. Some of the rookies I have 500++ rookies of (obviously tons of duplicates) some only 25-50 of. The cards will be .10-.25/card + shipping . Here are some of the players:
1993 Drew Bledsoe
1993 Rick Mirer
1993 Mark Brunell
1994 Marshall Faulk
1994 Isaac Bruce
1995 Joey Galloway
1995 Kordell Stewart
1995 Terrel Davis (SOLD)
1995 Steve McNair
1995 Rob Johnson
1995 James Stewart
1995 Kerry Collins
1995 Michael Westbrook
1996 Keyshawn Johnson
1996 Eric Moulds
1996 Terry Glenn
1996 Amani Toomer
1996 Eddie George
1996 Tim Biakabatuka
1997 Jake Plummer
1997 Jim Drukenmiller
1998 Brian Griese
1998 Ryan Leaf
1999 Torry Holt
1999 David Boston
1999 Akili Smith
1999 Edgerrin Jmaes
1999 Cade McNown
1999 Brock Huard
2000 Chris Redman

Let me know if I can help.

Thank you

I think quit a few factors you mentioned are true. If you had Warren Moon or Nolan Ryan I would be interested.

As for collecting habits, I wonder if a lot of people are like myself. I have collected for nearly half of my 37yrs and my PC has a much different theme now than in the past. I once wanted every Houston card I could get my hands on. Now I am happy with one of each card I like and can afford. Even though I would take all the Ryan and Moon you had, I would prefer no dupes. My main PC is Andre Johnson but I don't seek out every single one of his cards.

studioU:

I now only buy Jim Thorpe, Red Grange and Bronko Nagurski and I guess I have some hoarding tendencies as I buy everyone I can get my hands on.

Its getting harder to sell cards in general. It seems like unless you're giving them away, no deal is that great to the potential customer. You see the thread titles all the time as well. People that want to trade their buckets for someone who just happens to the hottest name out there right now, and dont have jack squat in their bucket that is even close to being equivalent to what their asking. Too many double standards is starting not make this hobby fun anymore.

Lets get rid of some of this junk.

I've run into the same problem with the older cards I have. Your best bet may be to sell them at a garage sale in smaller lots to people who don't know much about the hobby. Or like you said, just sell the toploaders and maybe donate the cards to a children's hospital. I just don't think much interest is there to spend money on cards that were overproduced.

A few months ago I dumped about 60,000 baseball cards from the late 80's/early 90's in the dumpster. I couldn't find anybody that would even pay the cost of shipping for the cards. I thought I would feel bad after I did it but I'm glad I did.

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents, best of luck to you!

My experience is that most people want autos now days. 90s and 00s inserts and rookies had a bit of value. Now they are so common people see them as burdens. When I think about cards, "My PP has $50 do I want one nice card or 100 $0.50 cards?" I'll go with the one every time.

It's the same reason why you would like to sell them. If I can sell hundreds of rookies for a quarter or dollar a pop I can get a nice Jim Thorpe and feel like it didn't hurt much to get it.

If I were you I'd start a COMC account. You'd be amazed what people will pay. Over time at the right prices you could move what you're wanting. It's a busters dream for recouping from breaks.
