Perhaps, but Vanderbilt has a student body of 6000. The baseball team has 35 guys. That's .5% of the student body on that team.

If that same percentage of NYC were the Mets, there would be 48,632 Active NY Mets.

That is just to say, it is odd that a) they could find students that did not know about the baseball team (which is one of the teams that is most socially integrated there) and b) not know who Tyler was, given that he got a lot of on-campus press coverage, and is by all accounts a very socially active player.

It was like that when Price was on campus. Some friends of mine thought he was on the basketball team.

Used to work out at the gym his dad owned in MA and I also lived in his hometown for four years. Solid kid by all accounts. Dominant pitcher in high school. Personally I would have taken the money... Better man than me I guess. Looks like its going to work out for him though.

I've had a couple interactions with Walter. He is a very nice guy and a very smart man.

I dunno, I think that it was smart of him to set a number and stick to it. I seem to remember that if the Blue Jays had offered 3.5-4MM, he would have signed.

Even for the guys that turn down more out of HS than they eventually sign for as pros (I know one guy that turned down 1.7 out of HS and got a bonus of 700k), it still works out. You can assuredly get a college degree if pro ball doesn't work out. But you would not be able to enter most top 20 academic schools with that much time between high school and matriculation.

Plus, and I think Corbin is smart to emphasize this, with as competitive as college admissions are, the open market value of an admissions letter from a top 20 school of your choice is worth close to 7 figures.

Ty's rap career is, though, a touch regrettable!

People know who Tyler Beede is. Or at least imo. His cards are going for double what Kris Bryant's same cards were last year. I've only gotten 1 USA auto as a result. I think the walks will determine where Beede goes in the draft this year.

That's because Bryant was expected to go in the top 20 or top 15 before last season started whereas Beede has been pegged as a top 5 pick since last season. Plus Beede was a pretty high pick back in 2011.

I recall Bryant being a top 5 guy before last season. I also recall Beede being closer to top 10 for this year. But he's more of a wildcard at this point. I think rodon, hoffman, jackson, turner, kolek and a few others would easily go ahead of Beede at this point.
