View Full Version : Ok, the SB was fun. Now let's talk 2014 Draft - RANK'EM!!!

Please forgive the multiple threads tonights - third week teaching high school and I had my first "bad" day. :)!

Ok guys and gals, to be honest, I'm pretty psyched about the 2014 class and that's scary considering how much I've spent on my three rookies from 2013. (which sucked!) So here are the 15 rookies I think will command the most hobby respect next season; rank'em how you think they'll be valued!

(Again, this is how you think collectors will value these players during and after the draft - not how their careers will turn out.)

1. TE Jace Amaro
2. WR Kelvin Benjamin
3. QB Blake Bortles
4. QB Tahj Boyd (Who Bleacher Report currently has going in the 5th round!?!?!)
5. QB Teddy Bridgewater
6. RB Kadeem Carey
7. QB Derek Carr
8. DE Jadeveon Clowney
9. WR Mike Evans
10. QB Jimmy Garoppolo
11. RB Carlos Hyde
12. WR Marqise Lee
13. QB Johnny Manziel
14. RB Trey Mason
15. WR Sammy Watkins

EDIT: I have the players listed alphabetically - not how I would rank them.

Sammy Watkins will get a lot of Cordarelle Patterson/Julio Jones hype

CJ Mosley appears to be missing. Id also have Money Manziel in the top 3.

A tight end at number one???

He could break every tight end record and still won't outsell an above average rookie qb.

Obviously, the initial hype will probably be something like:

1. Manziel
2. Bridgewater
3. Bortles or Carr (whoever goes third)
4. Clowney
5. Watkins
6. ?????

And that team should be shot.

Nothing against Hyde, but a RB shouldn't go top 10 unless he is Adrian Peterson's clone.

In terms of value, Money Manziel is clearly going to command the most, and likely by a wide margin.

Thank you. This is what I'm looking for. Not who's going to have the best career, but who's going to be the hottest in the hobby come draft day.

For me, I see it going:

1. Johnny Manziel
2. Teddy Bridgewater
3. Blake Bortles
4. Jadeveon Clowney
5. Sammy Watkins
6. Tre Mason
7. Mike Evans
8. Marqise Lee

You could be right. But it also depends on the team they are drafted on.

Example: Packers or Cowboys draft pick will usually command much more hobby value than a Jags or Texans card based on collector size. Just my opinion.

Well of course. But I think its safe to assume that these guys are both going to go to small market teams, as the small market teams are the ones that need Qbs. Your big markets- Chicago, New England, Green Bay, Denver ETC.- are probably not going to take a QB, and if they do, it would be a late rounder.

On the subject of markets, what kind of market is Houston? Honestly it seems like a wildcard to me. Houston is MASSIVE and I don't know that they've ever had a draft pick to get excited about. Who knows, 2014 could be the year we really get to see what Houston collectors are made of.

I don't think it's that big because not many older fans due to the fact they are a relatively new team. Just look at Andre Johnson prices, arguably the best player in their short tenure and he doesn't command as much love as he should. But if they pick a QB they will maintain value regardless of market.

As long as the Cowboys are around, the Texans will just never get much hype. They are overshadowed by the happenings of their always 8-8 brothers.

Have Oilers fans not migrated back from the Titans or are they all still rooting for Tennessee?

I'm basing this off my aunt who was a die-hard Oilers fan and now bleeds for the Texans.

I am collecting these people even if they dont go to the Bengals

1. Carlos Hyde (About a 2% Chance he goes to them)
2.Sammy Watkins (Will be gone by the time Bengals pick is up)
3.Tahj Boyd (I think Bengals have a great chance to pick him, they say he is a 5th rounder but i think he will go in 2 or 3rd)
4. Jordan Mathews

1) Rashede Hageman

From what I heard about Hageman at the Senior Bowl, he isn't a very sound Football Player. He has all of the tools, but he get's wrapped up in personal battles with his blockers and lets guys run past him. Some team will more than likely drop a 1st on him and be chronically disappointed.

And that team should be shot.

Nothing against Hyde, but a RB shouldn't go top 10 unless he is Adrian Peterson's clone.

Carlos Hyde isn't "special" enough to be a 1st Round Pick, almost like a deluxe model Monte Ball.

Especially if he ends up in Foxboro.

Scary thought there

G: Cyril Richardson, Baylor
TE: Eric Ebron, NC

Cyril Richardson looked like hammered #@#@#@#@ against Aaron Donald. He outweighs Aaron Donald by 50-60 pounds and has 6 inches on the guy.

Richardson could be a nasty guard if he would ever learn how to finish blocks. He looked bad in the Senior Bowl Practices and the Game too.

Agreed. But the potential for nasty is tantalizing, and I believe Donald will be a mid-first round pick come draft day, for what it's worth.

Where does everyone think clowney will rank?

Skootown
02-04-2014, 10:32 AM
I think Clowney is gonna rank around #2 or #3, especially if he's drafted in the top 3.

I realize QBs are king of football collecting and he plays defense, but personally I'd rather collect what could be a once-in-a-generation type of guy over a QB that may or may not end up being a complete bust.

Watkins has some Leaf cards, so does Bridgewater.
Teddy B also has SI 4 Kids card
Tajh Boyd is in 2009 Razor and has a base and auto

good year for WR this draft

Sure, he may look like Tarzan, but if he's going to play like Jane, then he's going to drop. IMO Warmack and Cooper from last year were much better Guard prospects and had zero issues with playing nasty.

Zack Martin looks like a much better OG/OT prospect for pro offenses than Richardson.

SethMurphy
02-04-2014, 11:26 AM
Manziel will be Andrew LuckxRG3xNewtonxTebow initially, crazy money here for flippers

Bridgewater will be second, there will be a decent market for Tajh Boyd too as a mid round pick.

Bortles won't have crazy money, maybe Ponder/Locker type guy

Clowney will be the best selling defensive player we have seen in years I am sure

Sammy Watkins and Marqise Lee will have good flip value initially

potential sleeper value to explode will be Tre Mason in my opinion, I think initially he will sell ok, but not great, could blow up like Eddie Lacy in the right situation

Money wise i'd go:

1) Manziel
2) Watkins
3) Bridgewater
4) Bortles

Buy Low Sell High:

Jimmy Garoppolo if he goes to the right team with a bad or brittle QB and has a few games(6-8) to learn he may shine.

I'm certainly no collecting expert, but I highly doubt it.

I'm sure his cards will be expensive and all, but Andrew Luck was the most-hyped QB prospect in NFL history. People knew he would be the #1 overall pick back in 2010.

Manziel will sell because he is very popular, but isn't on the same level as Luck in terms of talent and potential imo.

sleeper QB investment possibly could be Zach Mettenberger if he goes to a good situation where he could start in year 2.

With his injury he is probably a Rd 4 pick now, and could slide into a real nice spot with a team that can groom him for a year
