I already had the Franco but I always wanted the Bettis. Got it for a great deal. They really don't make cards like these anymore.

Very nice! That design is definitely up there with (imo) the 97 skybox autographics and 2000 spa sign of the times. Way better than the garbage they come up with these days!
Not to mention these were harder than hell to pull.

awesome Bettis!!
someone on the BO forums mentioned that SP Authentic didnt sell that well or for that much/book that high when they first came out. how long did it take for them to catch on? how many years after 1998 manning?

The rookies definitely sold well from the beginning. You only got 1 per box and they were sp'ed. 1998 was pretty much the year they took off because of the Manning/Leaf hype.

I wonder if the Colts still feel they made the right decision?

The funny thing is I collected Leaf lol
I remember selling a Manning Bowman Chrome refractor for $200. Then turned around and used that money to buy more Leaf.
Only people who were in the hobby back then know how much some of these players sold for. Manning's Topps Chrome refractor was a $250 card in 1998. Rookies were actually worth something when you pulled them.
I remember prices well because I sold them at the shop I worked at, as well as on ebay.

I remember pulling the redemption for the Bettis a couple years after expiration and UD was nice enough to honor it. Still one of my favorite Bettis cards of all time. Nice pickup :)
