Had a buyer open a case on me today for the first time ever. This was for item not received. Auction ended on 1/27 late at night and I shipped it out first thing in the morning on 1/29. I live in the Chicago area(we are having extremely bad weather lol) and it had to go to Spokane WA. Fortunately I had put tracking on the package but I had forgot to put it onto the auction when I marked it as shipped. As soon as I got the email about the case I pulled up the tracking and it showed as being delivered today. Before I could email the guy telling him to check his mail he closed the case....
Me personally, I give it two, two and a half weeks before I do anything about not receiving something and I send an email to the seller first before jumping the gun. This guy couldn't wait 9 days, in the middle of one of the worst winters we have had in years!!!
What do you guys think is proper etiquette as far as being a buyer on the bay?

I guess it depends on the situation. If it's a lower end card I can wait a couple weeks without any notification about delivery, however on a high end I get a little more antsy. I usually don't say anything but if I haven't heard from the seller within a week or so, and no tracking info has been uploaded then I usually write them to see what's up. I've never had a high end go much past a week though. I'd probably use the two week mark as a standard, though I certainly wouldn't open a case without talking to the seller first.

I waited two weeks for a card auction ended 1/19 and Wednesday 2/5 I messaged the seller. He had the tracking and it was last in Oklahoma City where he was shipping from on 1/24 and then nothing else. I'm waiting to hear back to see what he found. I hope it's not lost in the mail. To me that would be the proper way to do it. Contact seller first, then if the seller is giving me the run around I'll open one. But I would never immediately escalate to open a case first thing.

This was for a lot of x-fractors that was won for 10 dollars. It wouldn't have bothered me if he would of sent me a message but he just had to open a case without warning. I'm seriously thinking about blocking him from here on out.

for an item I bought (depending on what tracking shows) I will usually open dispute for not received after 10- 14 days.... As a seller I always give the buyer atleast 7 days to pay before i open any disputes...
Also depends on the shipping service i paid for... if i pay for 1 day express mail, i dont expect to wait 10 days... same goes if i pay for 2-3 day priority i dont expect t to take 14 days.... so kind of just depends on situation

Just be sure to upload the tracking to ebay next time and most likely situation won't happen again.

that's why I love printing labels off eBay or Paypal. It automatically uploads it for you plus it saves me between .30-.50 every single time

I normally do but for some reason I missed that one. Didn't even think about it till today. I do need to start using the paypal shipping, would help a lot.

I wait 3 days to open a NPB case. When auction is won I send an invoice. After 48 hrs of no payment I send an invoice with a note that if payment isn't received in the next 24 hrs I will open a NPB case. Then I open the case. After the case is opened they typically pay within 24 hrs.

If you block him you are only hurting yourself in my eyes. People do dumb things sometimes. Best thing you can do is pull up your laces and keep trucking.

I am the buyer in question. My apologies to the OP. I will try to clarify, even though it will make me look foolish. I was only trying to contact you and ask you for a tracking #. In my ignorance of how Ebay works it opened a case. To add to my mistake, less than 3 hrs later the package arrived in pristine condition with excellent packaging. I immediately closed the case and marked "package arrived". The case was open for less than 3hrs and although you may not believe me it was not my intention to open a case, but to solely ask you a question. Ban me if you wish, but I am publicly apologizing to you.

2 days 4 days to close.

I was actually scrolling down the thread for someone to mention that this is probably what happened. Didn't expect the buyer to be the one mentioning it.
That's one of many screwed up Ebay changes. When you go to "contact", the options "I haven't received my item yet" from the pre-filled out menu, which in the real world (not Ebay's) would just send a message to the seller. But nope, it automatically opens a case. Completely ridiculous and absurd. To actually contact a seller, you have to choose "other"

It's all good, I was just a little surprised by it all. I've never had an issue like that so I didn't know it was a problem on the site as far as trying to contact someone. I had no intention of outing you on here either, just wanted to see what most people do in this situation. I'm glad the cards got to you in good shape!

You have to keep in mind that in many cases when a buyer even contacts you about an issue Ebay automatically opens a case. I have had a few opened against me where the buyer had no intention of doing so and never realized they did.
