I was going to bid on this card.
2012 13 Immaculate Standard Pat Riley Jumbo Jersey 08 10 | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-13-IMMACULATE-STANDARD-PAT-RILEY-JUMBO-JERSEY-08-10-/161216841555?pt=US_Basketball&hash=item258945c753)
But the price is already more than double what the same card sold for just a few days ago (some may even value this 10/10 more than one above)
Pat Riley 2012 13 Panini Immaculate Standard Jumbo Jersey 10 10 Last Number | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PAT-RILEY-2012-13-PANINI-IMMACULATE-STANDARD-JUMBO-JERSEY-10-10-LAST-NUMBER-/310862822889?pt=US_Basketball&hash=item4860de3de9)
What gives?

SICK card! :)
If I didn't already have enough things to chase, this set would be something I wouldn't mind doing.
As far as the bidding... I looked at both activities and it seems like it's the same two people. Either they're having a bidding war, or they're shilling. I don't know the patterns of these particular sellers and bidders, so I can't say which. Pretty crazy bidding though, something definitely up, but couldn't tell you which.

There's only 10.
It's a great card!
some people out there just don't have a budget when shopping a card so limited of a retired athlete.

To start the one that sold for 100.00 was sold from Asia. I feel like that might limit the price a bit. Some people don't like to deal with international shipping. I have never had an issue, but the cards I have gotten the best deals one have come from Asia.
With that being said it does seem a bit shady. a***b has 11% bid activity with the current seller and is the current high bidder at over 220.00. This same bidder put in a max bid of a 100 on the first one and let it sell for 102. They wouldn't go up 5 bucks, but now they will go up 125 and more than double the price? I know some people loose their budget after missing out in a rare card once, but it all just seems to uncomfortable.

Looks like only 2 bidders bid on it after $100. Maybe shill bid or maybe the 2 guys just really need it and don't want to miss out.

I am the one winning it right now at that absurd price, I hope it's not shilled. I need it for the set which is the only reason I am going so high on it.

If it is two people biding at it legit they aren't very smart. Who bids that many times that early before close. Seems suspicious to me.

To be honest, I was pissed after I lost the first one, and really didn't expect this one to go anywhere near what it is. I couldn't resist bidding on it when I saw this one. I realized that increased the chance of it going higher, but I didn't care. It wasn't about being smart or dumb.

I would have gone higher on the other one, I missed bidding at the last second. Which was another reason I bid early on this one. I don't know about the other guy but my bids are legit. I have bid on and won several items from this seller over the last several days. I know how that looks lol but it is completely on the level. At least from my end.

Actually, cards from Asia might sell for more, because they are generally always willing to ship worldwide - whereas sellers in the US are unwilling to anymore.

Its just dumb to be driving the price up, if you want to win it just wait.
No one with serious intentions to win a card would drive the price up early.
All of a sudden two bidders suddenly decide, let me bid early? Get the hell out of here, its SHILLED or someone that owns one is driving up the price to create a new "Going Rate", then later dump his.
End of story.

The beauty of collecting.... :)
I have many people in the past do this, where they bid me up because I know I needed that card. Same person too, even though they probably never wanted it, but just wanted to bid me up. Or maybe they wanted it too, who knows... Anyway, good luck getting it for your pc.

TBarn is as legit as it gets and I know he isn't shilling it up. I do feel like this set has been getting more and more popular over the past few weeks. After hearing from TBarn I would bet that this is a legitimate auction. People who not only missed out on the previous Riley, big recent sales of Maravich, AI and others could be going all out on this one.
Good luck TBarn!

You aren't looking at the situation the same way I was so of course it would seem dumb to you. I need this card for my set, I am already to invested into this set to lose this one. I missed bidding on the last one and when this one popped up I said **** it I am not losing out on this one. I'll just throw in a bid over what the last one went for and hope for the best. I got outbid pretty quickly and so I wanted the lead again. Thinking I might be getting shilled, I bid in smaller increments just to try and take the lead back without putting a bid in that was to much higher and risk having it bid up. Unfortunately the guy who outbid me had an insane bid and by the time I took the lead back it was at $222.50. If it is being shilled then the people doing it are i***u and b***b. Either way, I did not care, I just wanted the card. So while some might view it as dumb, I don't really care as long as I win it.

Ya Tim, I think you are getting hosed. I was gonna bid on some of those premium patch cards that Karina (this seller) had ending the past few weeks, they have had a ton, and every one to a card is going for a lot more than similar ones from just as reputable sellers. I have not and will not bid on any items from this seller ever again.

Yeah, probably not the best bidding strategy. There is no reason to be in the lead this early in the game. I hope you're not getting shilled, and good luck!

Can anyone explain wtf people get into bidding wars on ebay and pay way more than they should? Why doesn't anyone just wait till the last second and snipe a best price?
I just recently started buying some silver on ebay. People get into bidding wars for silver and end up paying more on ebay than they can pay for at the companies own site that's making it, and selling it. lol

The reason I bid early was because I missed the last one and with my chaotic schedule as of late, I didn't want to take the chance of missing it again. I really wasn't taking into consideration the possibility of shill bidding when I was bidding. The person who outbid me first, bid in small increments until he took the lead. I thought that was suspicious, but I took the lead back. The second person who out bid me just put in one $220 bid. Which I found odd and not exactly in line with shill bidding. IF the b***b bidder was shilling, then I would assume the $220 is the price he/they wanted to get out of it. Don't get me wrong, I HATE being shilled and I will be reluctant about paying $222 for a Riley jsy but as long as I get it I can live with it.

Get a sniping program, would save you tons, still makes absolutely no sense to me.
With more than 1 day left and unless you live in a cave where internet might be spotty, it still makes no sense.

The one thing wrong with sniping is that you can still lose and a card can still sell for less than what the buyer valued it at.
Say bidder A has a max bid of $300 unknown to any other buyers.
Current bid is $100.
Bidder B decides to snipe last second with a bid of $110.
Card sells for $111.
Snipe doesnt work and the card is sold at a bargain to the winner who was willing to pay $300 for it.
In any case something may or may not be up but if it is legit, its another one from the ten locked into a pc.

People often pay for what they think cards are worth to them, regardless of wether it is shilled or not.

I am confused.... what doesn't make sense? I suppose I could look into a sniping program. This is one auction though, so it wouldn't really save me tons... and if I used the sniping program would it really have mattered? The guys max bid was $220. Really, if I had used one I most likely wouldn't win the card because I would never have thought it would go so high. Also, If I was worried about paying to much, I wouldn't have bid that much. It isn't like I make a habit of bidding outrageous amounts on cards that aren't worth it. I wanted this card and I bid what I was willing to pay. If I get outbid then I get outbid. I don't understand what doesn't make sense about that.

This is a classic 2 man vs bidding war. 2 guys that either want or need the card and paying over market value averages for it.
As soon as both are done getting it for their needs, the prices come back down.
Good luck

Personally, if I have to bid 2 or 3 times more than previous sale, I would just find out the winner from the last auction. That winner can easily pockets $100~$150 for doing nothing.
