Penny SPx Auto ebay item

Came across this item:

Went to the UD Authentication website, and the hologram is not found. However, it also notes that items produced before 2002 are excluded from the database.

a) I am no expert on Penny autos, but how does that one look to those who are?

b) Why would UDA produce a 1/1? I understand something to put in packs, but wouldn't a one-off card be odd for UDA? I understand big items (signed game used shoes, etc), but not this.

c) Can one call UD to even verify or get any information at all on pre-2002 items? If not, this is a massive, massive, massive hole in the system, and frankly it eliminates any real value held by a UDA COA at all.

Looks nothing like his current signature.. maybe he signed differently back in the day?

The "1/1" is fake. It is the typical 1996 SPx Penny Hardaway Auto (his first auto).

The auto looks real compared to his 90's auto. 1) He actually signed "Penny" instead of "Anfernee". 2) The auto is clear and you can see the full "H" and "d" in Hardaway.

You can call up Upper Deck to verify the UDA code. Card like this is not in their database. But for me, I would just buy it as long as they match. It is a $40 to $70 card, not this fake "1/1" $250.

Drop an e-mail to UD with the hologram number and they should have no problem verifying whether the item is real or not. I have done this a few times regarding Kobe buyback's.

That's dissapointing, I've bought from this seller many times over the years. Auto looks legit, the 1/1 was added by someone else.

No. All buyback is based on "SP" card, not "SPx" card. Also, Upper Deck only used this kind of white paper COA for 1996 or previous year. For buyback, UD has different COA design.

The card looks legit except the 1/1 lol, such a shame, would not pay a dollar for that because of the 1/1, bummer.
