When did this happen?

I just went and paid for shipping on an ebay sale of mine and it was $1.93, that's I think almost a 30 cents increase over what it's always been and what I would have paid on a shipping just a couple weeks ago

Why such a large increase in price?

I could understand like 5 cents or so, but almost 30?

Seems a bit much

Shipping in Canada has gone up too. About 15-20%.

A conservative estimate would be that there are all ready 20 threads on this,

January 26th I believe was the date it started and it was communicated in September of 2013 to Ebay and Paypal members

Strange, I don't remember seeing any threads on it and I don't remember ever seeing a message from ebay about it

Anyone know the reasoning behind such a big price increase?

And no, it's not that I think 30 cents is a lot of money, but that can certainly add up if you're a large volume seller, or even shipping inexpensive cards that you're only making a buck or so on to begin with

not to pile on, but yeah, kind of old news.

I think we all know teh USPS is struggling financially.

Because the USPS is a broken government run agency and they can take more money if they want?

Its a mess... But for 3-3.50 you can ship a card anywhere in the united states..

What rock have you been living under? ;)

Yet people will still be dinging DSRs on ebay for $2.50 shipping charges.

And to all you uneducated people they reason they lose so much money is they have to fully fund pension obligations MANY years in advance.

My mailman alone makes double the average HOUSEHOLD annual salary for this area. Add that onto the list for why they need to scrape together more cash.

I don't get it.

Name the other companies who can lose your package, damage your package, deliver packages to the wrong houses, deny your paid insurance claims at whim, and never have to take responsibility whilst having immunity from civil suits.

my point is the post office is still doing the same service of delivering the packages.......so why should it cost me $3 more to ship 2 packages from the post office, as opposed to sitting at home and printing a label from paypal.

Well I was enducated when I did research. Then I was educated.

It's just easier for people to parrot inaccurate information than to understand why.

Now you want to talk disfunction? Talk the Social Security Administration.

I have see them 3 times in person and 4 times over the phone yet my mother in law still receives a bill for her Medicare prumiums.

She died in September 2013.

Because you get a discount from doing it at home.

$1.93 online vs 3.37 (I believe) at the counter.

My Grandfather got a bill three months ago from Medicare. When no one responded, they called and asked to speak to him. I kid you not.

He had been dead since 2001

He had been dead since 2001

1st call I made to them after receiving the bill.

I said to the nice woman the situation. She told me that it would be a 1 time thing becuase the system had not caugt up yet.

Plausible as she passed on the 10th of September and the bill was received late September.

2nd call the response was "Well sir seeing she has passed you should not be receiving this." YOU THINK?

3rd call. Almost like the 2nd with a little honesty. "Sir sometimes these drag out for months."

4th call was just for fun.....In January. We received a Cancellation Notice because the dead woman hadn't paid her bill.
I call them up all indignant....Demanding to know why my mother in law's Medicare had been cancelled. The woman was very apologetic and told me she would look right into it.
She fumbles around and I here keyboard keys being hit pretty quickly. After about 4 "Thank you for holding's" she finally says......"Sir she passed away in September".

I told her I knew that and was just wondering when the notices would stop coming.
She didn't seem offended at all.

Last week we received a CONFIRMATION of the Cancellation Notice.....Just in case we forgot I guess

i guess they win if we don't constantly say this (despite how tiring it is to see the same uneducated buzz-lines).

Jon hit the nail on the head. USPS is the only place I can think of that is being required to fund ALL of its pensions wayyyy ahead of time for employees that haven't even been hired yet.

so yeah, they "lost" a ton of money because they were given a ridiculous hole to climb out of. any company that is required to work this way will post record losses.

You can add plain old stealing to the list. I've had packages go missing with such a frequency that them getting lost is not a possibility. They were either thrown away or stolen. There is some real trash in the postal service that needs their ass kicked

I have been buying regularly for 7 years now on ebay and I bet less that .1 percent, that would be 1 in 1,000 packages has been lost or destoryed. I think overall they do a pretty good job getting packages where they need to go and quickly.

Also the USPS is not a government agency, it is run by Congress, they get no federal funding, everything they spend or lose is money the have or have not made. With the increase in the price of gas, wages, etc...I am surprised it has not gone up more.
