I like this new approach from the Braves. Hopefully Simba will be next.

I might be wrong but I thought braves had a history of not extending contracts of youngsters before time expired.
Seems like they changed their mindset this off season with Ff, JT, and JH

Heyward wasnt totally extended, just 2 years for his arb I think.
In my opinion, and I think others wrote this, that the Braves dont really trust Heyward since hes always hurt. So I doubt he gets a long term deal like these guys do any time soon.

Great job Wren, in my opinion Teheran will eventually become the ace in the Braves rotation so he we got him on the cheap! Freeman and Teheran is a bright future.

This a make or break year for Heyward in terms of the Braves locking him up long term. I can see them dealing him this offseason to try and get something back if he has another average year. From what I've heard he's asking for near what Freeman got annually to get locked up long term and he certainly has the skills if he could just stay healthy. Simmons should be next for an extension
If Minor can keep progressing I have no problem seeking an extension as well. Beachy is just too injury prone right now to consider. I think this is Woods year to breakout. Kimbrel will prove to be too rich for the Braves to afford so will be dealt sooner than later I imagine.

Yeah, I doubt Kimbrel gets signed. He is one of my favorites but going to cost way too much for a closer.

The next 2 years will definitely be make it or break it for Heyward. If he stays healthy and plays to potential, I think the Braves attempt to extend long term but that will be pricey and I bet there will be another long term deal on the books in Simmons before that. The Braves will be free of Uggla's contract by that time I think so there should be some extra money.
If his career continues as it has (showing great potential and putting together a good year until injuries hit), then I'd bet he will still want a pricey long term deal and might get it on the FA market but I don't see the Braves being a player at that point.
Unfortunately I agree on Kimbrel and I think he's going to a bigger market.

well i think this reflects the changing mentality across the game. more young players are signing team friendly deals like this. it gives the players security and keeps the owners/gms out of the hassle of arbitration and potentially alientating a future building block.
