It is because that Ponder/Cassel/Freeman guy is garbage and AP is tired of wasting his career in Minnesota playing with patchwork QBs.

Manziel isn't going to amount to much in the NFL IMO. The dude is too immature and worried about his "rep" off the field too much. For some reason I can see him being the next Ryan Leaf...and no, I am not kidding.

I agree. Anyone who sees manziels comments as a bad thing don't know much about sports. Do you not think every player on the field is "cocky" or confident?
Thats how they got to the position they're in. They believe in themselves and strive to be the best. Whether you like the kid or not you can't deny the fact that he can play

They need to trade for Schaub. He is much better option. Kubiak was so predictsble
Thee fact that AP is saying this does not bode well for their locker room and the QB that will be starting with him in the backfield this season!.
Manziel would be a bust in Minn. and many other NFL cities.

Without being drafted, Manziel is already better than Matt Schaub.
Manziel is at zero (unknown).
Schaub is in the negative since he scores for the opposing team.
Actually Manziel might be a good fit for the Vikes. Personally I would have traded to try to get Michael Vick for much cheaper from the Eagles, but any scrambling quarterback is going to leave the 2nd tier of defense at home allowing AP to get one on one downfield contact.
Also, I think Manziel will put strain on an already bursting Salary Cap, so not sure if that's wise for the Vikes.
AP is one of only 3 backs in the NFL right now that would be a good proposition for.

So having an opinion is being ignorant? I honestly don't think he will amount to much in the NFL. I think that is a fair assumption. The fact that he has had to go to counseling for alcohol abuse and he has anger issues amongst other things that we may not even know about. He already has an arrest record and he also overslept Mannings Passing Academy (which he could have probably used) and then was kicked out of it. I think its fair for me to have the opinion that he isn't going to be much of an NFL player and that he could end up like Ryan Leaf. All the kid wants to do is party (yes, its a part of "the college experience"), but you know that the NFL "fame" is going to go to his head. If that happens, he could be getting himself involved in a lot of things that he shouldn't be. Thinking he is going to be a bust like Ryan Leaf (Because everyone is hyping Manziel as much as Leaf was) is also another fair assumption. Would I be surprised if Manziel got into legal troubles like Leaf? Not at all! Would I be surprised if Manziel stayed somewhat clean? Again, not at all. I am just voicing my opinion on Manziel and I don't think there is anything wrong with that. At least I am giving my two cents in the thread unlike you who is just trolling.

Huh?
There is a rookie wage scale. He won't make more than any other pick would at that spot.

Ryan leaf is still better than what the Vikings have had at QB since favre left.

Yes, there is a Rookie Cap, and a Salary Cap. His minimum rookie wage will count ONLY towards the Rookie Cap, but his SIGNING BONUS will be prorated out over the course of his contract towards the SALARY CAP. At least that's my understanding of the Rule of 51 (and his would fall in the 51).
He's most likely a first round pick and that will come with a Signing Bonus. Take a look at Cam Newton's bonus when he signed.
You're talking about a team that is in desperate need for a Linebacker & Defensive End as well. For 2014, it wouldn't impact it much but with the 25% raise of the bonuses each year, 3-4 years down the road, it's going to have an impact.
I 100% agree they need a new quarterback, just not sure you want the "signing bonuses" associated with someone as hyped as Manziel, especially with the needs they have for playmakers on defense.

You are still limited to the size of the contract. Signing bonus or not, you only have one total value. Cam's contract was only 4 year/$22 million. That was for the number 1 overall pick.
Yes, his contract was fully guaranteed, but his number was orders of magnitude smaller than what Sam Bradford got the year before. Even if Cam busted out, he still wouldn't have hurt the Panthers as much as before.
Manziel might command more guaranteed money, but it isn't going to make a difference on the salary cap if he is around for 4 years and he won't command a value any more than a LB or DE. The only thing you need to worry about is if he busts out or not. A signing bonus is spread over the life of the contract.

Exactly!!!!
In fact, the Vikings have the fourth-most cap space in the NFL at the moment, with just over $103 million committed to 54 players for 2014. Assuming the cap figure lands around $126 million, the Vikings would have almost $23 million to spend this spring. Only the Oakland Raiders, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars would have more money available.

Agreed, the Leaf comparisons as far as maturity go are completely valid. I wouldn't be surprised if he skipped attending the first day of the draft to instead go to Vegas with his boys. He's that kind of guy.
I was amused by his assessment that he was a 'can't miss' prospect and that therefore the Texans ought not pass him over in the draft lol. Most respectable analysts have this guy as the third best QB available in the draft. Yet he thinks he's this once in a generation prospect like Elway, P. Manning and Luck were. I think Manziel could be in for a rude awakening.

People forget that John Elway was an #@#@#@#@#@#@#@ coming out of college.
Nobody remembers that he bullied his way onto the Broncos because he didn't want to play for the Colts.
Elway thought he was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Elway was a total beast though, that's the difference. He was arguably the greatest QBing prospect ever.

Manzeil relies on his legs to bail him out too often, that will not work in the NFL. His arm is ok and not great, not like Griffins arm and he does not have that speed that Griffin had. I dont like what I see and dont understand the hype
Personally like his hobby chances much more then his NFL chances. His attitude doesnt mean anything to me, its what he likely will be able to do on the field that matters

I think Manziel's legs would be best fit in Minnesota, simply because of the fact AP will open up so many running lanes for him, and vice versa. It's a no-brainer with their current 7-11 employee situation at QB. And if they can add CP to the slot full time...that offense could look quite scary in the next few years.

This same qb draft class had Dan Marino, and Steve Young, who just won a National Championship and set several NCAA records. Elway was not the top QB prospect of that one single draft.

He is a unique talent at QB but he isnt elite and thats going to slow down anything he does. Just read a report he said if the Texans dont draft him at #1 it will be the worst mistake they ever made. I like the moxy but dont understand this sort of thing. Him pulling out of the combine is a mistake, he isnt looked at like as a Derek Carr with elite arm strength and could do alot to quiet his critics with a great showing there. Even in Minnesota who has some weapons the only success they had last season was with Cassel who doesnt run at all. He needs better handlers or else he is going to get humbled in the NFL

Steve Young didn't come out until '84 in the USFL. '83 had Elway, Marino and Jim Kelly. But Elway was widely considered the number 1 QB prospect in that draft. I'm not saying he was the better QB, he was just widely considered the best prospect. If any of the other available QBs were considered as good a prospect as Elway, surely the Colts would have been tempted to take one of them given Elway had made it known in no uncertain terms that he didn't want to play for Baltimore. In hindsight Marino ought to have been considered as good a QB prospect as Elway but what let him down was his final year in college where he threw more INTs than TDs.

The problem for Minny is that it never seems to work when teams mortgage the farm to move up to get a guy. IMO, RGIII was a way better prospect than Manziel and it still crippled the Redskins draft situation to move up to get him.
If Manziel falls to them, fine. If not, I'd take either DCar or Bortles.
The one scenario I'm interested in is the possibility of Bridgewater falling. He's the one dude that doesn't seem to be generating any buzz whatsoever.

I can name millions of players who have had off the field issues and ended up completely fine. Just to name a recent one is Cam Newton. You're labeling him a bust because of his off the field issues. Judge him by his talent.
Judge him by his talent.
Improvisation won't last very long in the NFL. That's his talent.
