View Full Version : Re-Using Bubble Mailers?

I want to preface, don't think I'm a cheap bastard, nor an environmental nut;
However, wanted to run a poll on how many of you recycle or forward cards on in bubble mailers you receive from your purchases. I'm looking for honesty, so this poll is private.
I think I average ten incoming mailings a week...if I don't recycle that's roughly 520 bubbles a year...multiple that by hundreds/thousands.
Now my question is, how many of us collectors will actually take the time to open bubble mailer with a knife, exacto, razor...etc to open cleanly and then reuse the bubble mailer for future shipments whether it be low end lots or bubble mailer in a flat rate box for high end.
I typically inspect my bubble when it comes in, too much tape, I rip it open. Fine line of tape, try to pry it open. No tape (not always a good thing) slowly peel. If the integrity of the outside is still viable, will throw it in my stock for possible low end shipments (less then $10) or wrap multi player lots in flat rate boxes.
Again, not trying to save the world or be cheap, but if the mailer works, why not use it again (of course value of card is important)
Thoughts?

This thread is useless without a poll!
My vote would be no. My bubble mailers are not whores.

I do. Never had a complaint. I have seen comments on here before where people whine about it. Why? If the package makes it to you fine then what is the issue. Having said that...on mid-high end cards I will use a new mailer.

I wouldn't do that because it looks cheesy or amateurish to the recipient.

Why not recycle a good mailer? If it's still good why not use it again.

Also...if the bubble mailer looks rough I won't re-use it.

I reuse if its not to mangled or roughly used. But I just bought a lot of bubble mailers cuz I ran out of reusable ones so... I probably won't reuse for a while.

If it looks new and easy to open and it will stay in good condition i do so
Like u said i get a ton of packages in a week and i also send out so why not reuse if i can
Also, when i get cards from Panini i always use them
Just rip off the sticker and it is perfect!

I reuse bubble mailers quite often. If it is still in good condition why not reuse it? I actually don't throw any bubble mailers away regardless of condition. The ones in bad condition make for good bubble wrap or cushioning in a box.

Panini Redemptions are great in that they are clean opens and easy to put an eBay label over...not so good if you have a questionable mail person

Been in this hobby for a few years now, I have never bought a bubble mailer. Always reuse the ones I can, like the OP I open gently to preserve them unless it's totally locked down with tape and then I just rip it open.

Always have, always will. I just use a little more tape to close it.

While now I use new mailers all the time given how inexpensive they are if bought in bulk, I used to be ont that would reuse mailers but only in certain circumstances. I used to reuse them only during trades. Anytime I sold on ebay or pretty much any sale on blowout or scf I would always use a new mailer. Couple reasons are that it doesnt look amatuerish and the other reason is if the person is paying me for the card and shipping cost I believe that the least I can do is buy a new mailer. Since in trades no cash is exchanged and they arent paying me to ship the item I often would use mailers in good condition. I would just slap one of those sticky shipping labels right over my name and the sellers name and it would work great.
Reuse all the time, you don't like you don't buy

Reduce (the number of used bubble mailers by reusing and recycling them to someone else!)

its ok to recycle. But according to the "rules" of ebay shipping established by the "hobby". If a seller charges $3.00+ for shipping you "must" spend that shipping money on supplies, so if you reuse bubble mailers you are "ripping" everyone off because it is free to recycle.
Never could understand why people are not happy to just get the card in great shape and let the sellers do what they want to get it to the buyer in great ship, not what "could" happen.:coffee:

I re-use bubble mailers in every sale I make. On ebay, I offer free shipping, so that's automatic 5 stars for the shipping price. I just figure the additional costs into the original purchase price. The buyer can't really complain about re-using mailers when the shipping costs are free to them.
I always ship either the same or next day, so there's another automatic 5 stars (ebay doesn't allow the buyer to chose another option, if you do this) and if I don't have any communication with the buyer, then that's another automatic 5 stars.
So the only thing a lot of the times a buyer can actually rate me on is the "item as described' category.

I should, but I usually just end up tearing them.
On the other hand, I have never bought team bags in my entire life. I always reuse team bags.

Sadly this is my situation as well. I sell plenty but via COMC so even though I keep the good condition mailers for re-use I never sell outside of COMC and don't need them. Thus they just continue to collect. I keep telling myself that when I buy the cards I'm going to use to get around the 20% COMC cash out that I'll use these then.

I don't think I have bought a bubble mailer and I mostly reuse because I am a cheap bastard. In fact I was going to ask if others have ever had complaints about reusing and then found this poll. I get reused when buying and do it myself and don't see the problem but don't want to catch crap from a buyer for it. Anyone ever have a complaint or even a neg over it?
